Just got talked into buying a Linksys WRT400N that is a dual band N router. Guy at the store said its backwards compatible and that my iPod and Android devices should still function fine but after reading a bit here am nervous it may not work.
Well, I don't know, which is why I ask here. I don't play high end games, mostly MMOs and the rest of my computer time is spent coding. The processor currently in it is an E6300 1.86GHz.
I bought this HP system and have installed a Soundblaster card, a Radeon HD4650, and more RAM (3GB total in the system) but I am looking at upgrading the processor as it's nearing three years old now.
I am not well versed in hardware but it appears I can't do much upgrading at all to the CPU...
Happy Mediums post stuck out to me as I WOULD like to make a new computer before the end of 2009 for myself (and give this current one to my son). Therefore, I went out and picked up a 4670 to tide me over as per Termies suggestion. I don't play anything that really pushes the envelope graphics...
This is my computer but with a Soundblaster Live card, a graphics card, and a power supply installed. And I have 3GB of ram in it.
HP Computer 1654n
I don't overclock and just run the system as is, nothing special.
Hmm, maybe I should grab a new power supply then. Am currently using a Thermaltake ( http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/ ) this particular one ( http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/...ct.aspx?C=1247&ID=1541 ). So I guess I should get a new one.
I was looking at one of these two possibly:
Antec 650w...
I was planning on picking up this card this wekeend http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgegtx260mc896ocbe.aspx (http://www.bfgtech.com/CMDocs/...=208-GTX260OCMC55.pdf). it claims it needs a 525w power supply.
I HAD a 600W one in to power my current one (Radeon 2600 HD) but it failed (the ps).
So I...
Have always purchased ATI cards but am looking to switch to Nvidia and don't know much about their cards yet. Am looking for opinions on cards in the 100-250 range at this site: http://www.canadacomputers.com...&cmd=pl&id=999.243.390
I've posted this issue before and have never come to a full resolution on this yet. I was running my current set up for quite some time until one day my system started rebooting randomly and was hot to the touch. After looking more it became apparent that the video card was very hot to the...
I still haven't looked into resolving this yet. I will try the straw thing tomorrow and see if I can figure it out. ATI Tool says my fan is running up to 100% and the temp keeps rising way up there and at the same time the outside of the power supply is getting hotter. All of this with the case...
I'm not well versed in computer hardware at all so when I come across issues like this I haven't the slightest clue.
Recently my computer was having some sort of issues where it would shut itself down. After some digging I discovered it was only when I had the World of Warcraft loading screen...
Well I believe my monitors native resolution is 1280X1024 although I don't really know how to tell. It specifies that resolution on the website for it. I had ClearType enabled before I installed the video card.
I just finished installing this new card on my system today and have noticed that my display is now blurry. The desktop looks blurred, especially the text. When I look at webpages the link colors are all different than they should be.
I've searched all over the web for this but can't figure...
I haven't followed hardware much at all over the last few years ut am looking to upgrade a video card for my wife and I. We've got our eye on the Radeon 2600 XT as it seems a nice jump up for us (we only play WoW and we'll be trying Age of Conan - to get a feel for our requirements).
However...
Damn :) I'm trying to figure out what processor to go with and in my mind I can't get over the fact that the duo cores are better than a straight processor. What I mean is...I can get a duo core 1.86 and that is supposed to be better than a standalone 3.2? I am trying to piece together a system...
Looking at the following processors:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ 2.2GHz
Intel Core? 2 Duo Processor E6400 2.13GHz
Intel Core? 2 Duo Processor E6600 2.4GHz
Obviously the 2.4 Intel is faster than the 2.13 but how does the AMD dual core processors stack up against the Intel ones...
I am putting a system together and the two choices for a video card I can make are:
256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache or the 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro
The last video card I bought was a Radeon 9600 and it has 256MB so I really have no idea what I'm looking for or how these two...
Ah wonderful, many thanks guys. Obviously my computer now is struggling to do much of anything so knowing that a dual core will be a nice leap makes me sleep better :)
I haven't really followed new tech as much so now that I'm facing an upgrade of my ancient 1.4Ghz processor I am looking around. There are a couple of games I want to play that request a 3.0Ghz recommended spec so I'm wondering if the dual cores (for example dual core 2.66) are adequate for that...
My mobo manual is here: http://www.paulduncan.org/files/a7a266-104.pdf and on page 8 it says PC2100/PC1600 DDR support. Does that mean I can't install two chips of 1GB DDR PC3200 400MHz DIMM Memory?
I am sitting at 1Gb ram right now and it may need a boost due to gaming. I have two sticks of 512MB ram but was considering buying a 1Gb stick to replace one of the 512s. Can DDR ram be mixed like this?
I had read DDR can have issues playing with other DDR chips but am not at all versed in...
First, I'm not sure what processor my mobo can hold. It's an Asus A7A266 but I think the highest processor it can support is a 1.4ghz. Anyway, I wouldn't mind upgrading to a 2.4/2.6 type of processor so am wondering if anyone out there can suggest a relatively inexpensive upgrade from the A7A266...
Ok so opened the box, remove the graphics card, rebooted and still no luck. Got to the Windows loading screen (with black background and windows logo) and once it got any farther in it lost picture.
Does it sound like I may need to reinstall Windows? :(
So my father had a major computer issue over the weekend so he decided to reinstall Windows which has led to a disaster :) I went by today and managed to get several things going again, download all of the Windows Updates once again but for some reason his ATI All-in-Wonder wasn't picked up by...
This is my motherboard....it APPEARS to have AGP4 support?
"1 x AGP Pro/AGP 4X"
A&A266 Motherboard
Thanks for letting me know that, I had no idea...but I'm assuming this motherboard can support that card...
Ah ok. I was looking on Ebay where there are dozens of Radeon 9200 PCI cards. I don't really have a budget, was just hoping to get a graphics card for about $100 somewhere so i can play soem of the new games (no, not Doom 3) :)
I have a computer that came with the Radeon 32MB (7200) about three years ago now. I am looking to buy a 9200 for now (9600 and 9800 are still priced too high) but I'm finding that they are all PCI while the 7200 was AGP.
Are all Radeons now PCI? I am very new to this but I'm assuming my Asus...
Just wanted to follow-up and thank you guys :)
After pulling each out...it turns out that I had left one of the old 256 sticks in there :) Geez, don't know how I overlooked that. Anyway it is now properly reporting 1GB of RAM :)
