Just to update:
The ud5 board is soo easy to oc. I'm a noob oc'er and the ud5 was sooo easy to oc. BLCK up to 180, memory profile to extreme setting 1 (corsair dominator 2gb x 3 1600), everything else on auto...stable 3.8ghz with 2hrs prime95 (too lazy to do longer) but temps do get up...
Posts first time on. Had a little trouble setting up raid 0 (my first time setting up a raid), but all running fine. Windows vista ultimate x64 fully updated and booted first time. Bios updated and screwed up my raid. Had to start over and reinstall everything!!!! Remember on next bios...
Thanks to everyone who helped. All parts are in and build is underway. Upgraded graphics card because splurged on new monitor 30" needing to drive 2500x1600.
Good point. And a future sli of the gtx 285 would be awesome. I wouldn't want to buy 2 right now, however, because I think they are overpriced. And i'd be a little worried about the lone 285 driving my 30" @ 2500x1600.
Lets throw in another kicker. The 285 on sale is the xfx.
I'm...
Again, I don't hate the 4870 x2. I actually prefer the underdog. I feel that its more technologically advanced at a better value. However, I'm not willing to suffer thru driver problems...and can afford not to. My time is worth more to me...I don't want to have "issues" with drivers. When...
I think the numbers show that gtx 260 in sli will cost more than the gtx 295 and be a little slower than the 295.
New info...just bought a 30" monitor (IPS) resolution 2500x1600 so now really need a sli or dual option!
Again leaning toward the 295 because afraid of ati drivers playing nice...
again, im shyin away from ati because of driver support issues esp with x58/i7. if driver suport was equal, no contest id get 4870x2...
some more info...also gettin either a 26' lcd 1900x1200 or 30' lcd 2500xwhatever...so i am leanin even more toward the 295. also considerin the xfx 285 for...
Well, I just wanted to get a board from a company that address' bios issues. I wasn't happy with my asus board when they never released any bios updates. I'm all for don't update if you don't have problems, but I want the company to be responsive to problems! Knowing that gigabyte is...
Wow...very pithy loller! At least someone is rooting for the asus board...any comments about it? Experience with it? I'm a little leery cause there's not much experience with it yet.
True krnmaster...there are some cheaper boards but my heart is already set on one of the premium about $300 ones...I do appreciate the reassurances tho that I will be happy with any board. I guess I should just go evga for the most hasslefree board (so far it seems).
I agree with the $450 board being out. Unless it is undisputably the one to get and worth it, i'm not paying the premium just for bragging rights.
They do seem to be very responsive to bios updates to the current x58 board with what seems to be the best bios support among the 3 listed. I...
True...I can understand that. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a lot of enthusiasm for nahalem and the boards so there is not a lot of at member advice. So its certainl been hard to decide with a dearth of side-by-side reviews, at member advice, and bios problems!
Can I as you if you were...
actually im now seriously considering the plain evga x58 mb (not classified). The customer service seems to be the best with evga with good forums as opposed to gigabyte. Also reviews on newegg seem to be much better with the evga with fewer bios issues atm.
What do you think of that? If I...
Now leaning toward the evga mb because of the great reviews on newegg and excellent history of customer service. Talked to their CS and they say that the step up program may or may NOT be eligible with the evga classifed board!
So, revolution with n200 technology vs evga with excellent...
I think i'm gonna sit on my hands chewing my nails day by day until we get some more definitive side by side comparisons. Let me know what u decide. I want to pull trigger but feel I don't have enuff info yet!
Now i'm thinking about the evga (non-classified) board as it seems to have very...
True...the x16 x3 is not a major factor...just a minor factor...more bragging rights im thinking. I think the classified is way overpriced at $450 for my purposes. That still leaves deciding between the revolution and the ud5. I've heard a couple people recommending the ud5....no one...
Thank you for the reply mcc. I am planning on eventually goin 2 way sli but not sure about 3 way. I think the only board that will support x16 x 3 will be revolution if they work out the bios/driver issues. So, do I want to take risk on a "new" untested board that seems cool or the more...
I'm looking to get a premium mb to mate with my 920 I got onsale at microcenter. I am really torn between the two. I understand neither has perfect bios atm.
I really want to like the revolution with its workstation/server "stability" and removal of legacy ports and addition of N200. I...
Blain, is that your way of telling me to go with the UD5 :) I wish I knew if the N200 is worth it. I just want to like the revolution, but my gut says the UD5 is a safer bet...
There are some concerns that the revolution problems might not be fixable with bios updates. I want to go with the revolution cause its built for servers and "workstations." Theoretically it should be more robust. I like the idea that it was redesigned without the dated technologies also...
After doing more reading, it seems like neither mb I picked is perfect. Both have issues. I want to go with the revolution but it still has some major issues with bios. Gigabyte also has major issues with bios. I have read about another board that sound interesting (premium)...the unreleased...
I realize c2d is better bang for buck, but I want and have already purchased the i7 (on sale) and ram. So looking for advice on how to proceed from here...
Budget is $1000-2000.
Purposes is for gaming and general internet/surfing. Minimal encoding, etc.
Noob oc'er but will certainly do some mild-mod oc'ing with air cooling...no way will get into water cooling.
Generally fan of bang for buck as opposed to latest and greatest.
Mostly need...
All right...thanks for the no-raid recommendation. Sounds like I should get myself an external drive to backup to... So, 2 people say wait. Was looking for excuse to pull trigger but perhaps wiser minds will reign me back.
Thanks for quick reply dsf. I guess i'm feeling the pc is a little dated...its over a year old...amd is out and intel is in...and I guess i'm also looking for excuse to build a vista machine...idk, prob jumping the gun...
Current System: Opteron 165 oc 2.61ghz, 2gb ram, geforce 8800 gts 640mb, windows xp HE sp2
The system runs fine for gaming right now driving a dell 2005fpw @ 1680x1050. It is getting a bit dated and am thinking of doing a new build. Been out of the forums for a bit and see there are now...
Thanks all for your quick replys. Sounds like I have a similar system to you mark...its not bad, but do get some lag with newer games pushing my 1650x1080 widescreen monitor. 2 of you both seem to echo what I am thinking...hold out for next gen tech. The itch hits me every once in a...
