Yeah, so I broke that lol. Clumsy tired hands and cheapo build quality don't match so well. Anyway, I'm not sure where to even buy something like that, it's not crucial, laptop works fine, even great after ssd install which led to the damage, but it looks very broken without that hinge cover...

Ok, so one decent SSD is better than 4 USB 3.0 FLash drives. Price wise a Samsung 850 PRO 256GB SSD will run me less which is good. I don't really understand these types of drives, I just know with old school drives you got one head, if you try to run 4 programs reading from the same drive...

Mobile computers are always gimped to some extent. I'm looking for something with a Quad core that will take 16GB as well because of my large spreadsheets. I worry that when I continue my work I will run into the need for 32GB and the few laptops that can do it are pricey as hell.

If that's true for the XPS maybe it's true for some Asus laptops, I'm a bit partial towards Asus products just because they've always worked well for me. I'll try to find out, if not then the HP will probably be my choice, it fits the bill perfectly

FIXED - I think.. OK, so I flipped the lappy over to see how I was going to dismantle this thing to apply some of the advice above. I took the battery out first and thought maybe try booting one more time but without the battery in it and it booted. I put the battery back in and it's booting...

Ok, 2 votes for "don't do it" is enough for me. So the question now is, does anyone have an idea why an eSata bracket connected to an internal SATA port won't show up in the "Safely Remove.." tray thingie in Windows? I've set AHCI so the other 2 internals show up but the external never does...

Now she's goin, changed back to 40MHz, changed something called "Control Sideband" to "Upper" this made the most difference, Channel 7 works best now, DTIM Interval don't know what this is but changing from 1 to 3 seems to have helped.. now I get ~9MB/sec. Finally! :)

Man, if I could get 8MB/sec that would be pretty amazing right now. Even 6 or actually a stable 3.5 would do, but no I'm getting 1MB/sec or less with the router in the old position. Just about to give up, screw wireless N :(

I should've clarified that my desktop is actually furthest from the router and I'm using one of those USB receivers. So, after bringing the router and laptop close to the desktop I was able to get ~3.5MB/s at times, definately an improvement and I guess I am having interference issues...
