Does anybody have Vista 64 installed on a MB with the AHCI enabled in BIOS and in native mode?
I had a lot of trouble and had to re-install Vista several times.
Did you guys have success with AHCI on a 965 chipset?
Thanks!
Can you connect a HDD and a CD-ROM to a Promise RAID contoller and have them function as master and slave?
I'm looking at the MSI K7T Turbo-R but I don't need the RAID, I just need to hook up my 4 IDE devices to separate channels.

I know it's open-source, but unless somebody owns it who will be responsible for the final product? Who's going to provide support?
heh..
And who will be the "Chief Software Architect" ? ;)
Linux, shminux...
I'm pretty sure there will be a "LITE" version on WinXP. Think about it: most of the world's population will have no means/resources/desire for the authentication/registering crap. The only bad thing about it is the need for an alternate source of updates (Windows...
Kyro 2 rocks!
This is FINALLY a real value: all the power with no overhyped and overpriced crap! Yee-haa!
Well I won't be getting one since I just got a V5500. It gives me FSAA in ANY 3D game (Kyro's only works in OGL for now).
But I still like it a LOT!
.
I have yet to see something that cannot be copied on a computer...
SuperCD or DVD-Audio didn't prove their viability so far.
If a DVD-Audio disk can be played on a regular DVD-ROM drive, it can be copied.
There's region-free firmware versions for DVD-ROM drives, I don't see a reason not to...

You should move out of the Great Wilderness, man. I live in Toronto, there's all kinds of providers. Unless you enjoy the endless wheat fields...
;)
Hehehehehe!
WARNING for Soccerman:
Toching NFS4's pride can result in penalty - your balls kicked all over the field!
Anyhow, where in Canada are you?
Hey, I'm Canadian too
Cheers!!!
Hi!
This is not directly for the forums, but for the weekly/monthly CPU/Video/Memory/MB price guides.
Now I understand it would require some extra search, but it it would be very nice to see if the seller ships in Canada or internationally, remember - Anandtech has a lot of non-US readers for...
heh...
To the "INNOVATION" defenders:
- innovation is doing more things with less transistors;
- more memory bandwidth shouldn't mean ULTRA-expensive DDR - shoud be a new memory interface or in the best case a new approach altogether
- innovation isn't taking somethig that existed...
hey ManuTOmanU -
You're right, Opera rocks.
:D Good things about it:
- Lightspeed fast
- Any OS
- Small d/l
- more info about page
- cool, new and useful interface
- doesn't cripple system (low mem requirements)
:frown: Bad things about it:
- no Java for Windows
- takes up more screen
-...
Hey rferrar1 -
Even though I can't believe you're a genuine member yet, not only I agree with you - I have an even better idea:
WHY DON'T WE SEND nVIDIA $100 FOR EVERY GPU VIDEOCARD WE BUY ?!
I mean, they're probably on the brink of bankrupcy with all thos R&D and manufacturing...
hey...
Did they use Carmack's face to model and animate that second character (the one with the funky lower jaw)? Hmmm... I hope they didn't use his voice...
But all-real-time lighting IS cool.
NFS4 -
Look at HL: it was late too but still kicks arse. Also see what they've done to the engine. You never know what they're up to.
Now if you want to start doubting whether a game will be released at all look at Prey. It's been in development for how long? Like 6 years? lol
heh...
Graphix aren't everything. Doom3 may turn out another POS only good for benchmarking a GF3; and Duke4eveR may turn out a great game; regardless of what engine it's using.
You may laugh; but I still play Thief2 and Might&Magic 7-8 rather than Q3 or UT.
I agree with Pocatello.
My G400 can run pretty much everything; looks at it's best in Carmageddon TDR2000; not really enjoyable in UT; solid in Counterstrike; good in Q3 (which I don't play at all); has the best 2D and poor DVD performance; it also has best support across different OS'es.
I...

Does it include soldering? I've heard about people modifying V5.5 for better 2D. Do you have to put like some extra capacitors in or to take something out?
You realize, of course, that it voids the warranty ;)
I'd get the Abit.
The only thing I don't like about it is the HighPoint controller. I'd be really REALLY happy if there would be a board featuring something like quad-IDE by Intel (ATA-100).
