    I would go with the memory theory. I have had it happen many times. DDR will work enough to boot, but the full install of Xp is stressfull enough to cause a failure.

    If you are using them on a LCD it is probably showing only the refresh rates that the LCD supports, 60 or 72hz. LCD's don't run any faster. They don't have an electon gun scanning through the screen you don't get flicker like a crt so 60htz looks great.

    We run one at work in our conference room. It looks clear. I don't think it does the split screen. They are really bright compared to a monitor so I don't think you want to sit too close to it.

    For Dv if you have windows Xp the Moviemaker 2 software is a free download. Most of the firewire cards come with basic software. My dvcam can connect to my 8mm camera so you can pass the 8mm through the dv cam. Otherwise most TV tuner cards have composite connectors for a standard camera.

    I bought a Canon SD-100 and have been very happy with it. A good lens and optical zoom is much more important than pixel count. You don't get a second chance to take pictures so I would get a decent one.

    Intel chipsets have the most support. 865 chipset should be fine with your setup. 875 costs a lot more and isn't much faster. You will have to reinstall windows XP.
