Well, I jumped on it - I don't log onto anandtech for months, I'm here for 30 minutes and I make an impulse buy.... I got the cele, 512mb ram, keyboard, mouse, one 160gb sata drive, 1 year service, no os for 309+tax free shipping.....this should be fun, thanks guys...

Thanks guys - I'm about to jump on this right away, but I have a Second newb question - could I use a Linux OS on this that I have instead of a window's os and have it network with my windows xp laptops...I don't feel like buying any more XP licenses....

Help building some cheap computers....

Thanks for all the comments - they are all very valid. Basically, I was wanting to see how low I could go and still be reliable. People metion the ECS combo - mine's been perfect (knocks on wood) since day one. That said, it's the case/hdd that's really killing me - not really the board/chip...

if a video card has vga + dvi out, it always support dual monitors?

I'm looking for the same thing.... A cheaper card that will do some 3d, but the focus is on 2d quality that will do dual CRT's at 1600x1200.... One with out a fan would be appreciated too!

The 8053 is probably one of the best heads currently available on the market, and anyone using it would be capable of winning at pretty high levels....unless you have a ton of outboard processing, stick with the 8053 - I was very close to buying it, but I needed more crossover channels then it...

Here's my current rig: AMD XP1800+ on an ECS K7S5A Pro MB (I think that's the board - it was one of those Fry's deals) 512MB of PC133 ram (I know but it was a hold over from an old P3 setup) WD 7200rpm 2mb cache drive and a WD 10gb 2mb 5400rmp drive Liteon CDRW and DVD drives GF2 64mb AGP card...

Yeah, he has a problem with Dell...that's what I would buy.... The toshiba...NEVER AGAIN. THe one he has constantly has problems with the CD-R - randomly freeszes, and the laptop randomly shuts down, even with it plugged into the wall. Like I said, it's not that the White Box style computers...
