My Temp Video Card Is Horribly Retarded

It seems to be having a problem when using some video-playback capability of your video card. Can you try to turn off either Hardware Acceleration for your video card (in the device properties) or hardware rendering options in your video player software? (I know MPC lets you turn this off but I...

    Making good coffee

Yes, they use a BUNN coffee maker that costs several hundred dollars. It's for commercial use, so I don't know why I would need something so big at home. Maybe it does a better job in some way, getting the water hotter?

    Making good coffee

I really do not know what I am doing when it comes to coffee. I can't make a good cup of coffee at home, so I usually get one from Dunkin Donuts. I've tried making my own with their brand of ground coffee, but not only is the taste unacceptable, it doesn't have that same caffiene kick to it, no...

Mapping the context key to something else

I have a Microsoft keyboard that has a context-click (right-click) key on the right side of the keyboard. I think it would be much more useful if I had a Windows key instead. Is there a way I can change the function of this key in Windows XP?

Building a sound-deadening enclosure for PCs

2 function as desktops, 2 as file servers. 12 hard drives total -- 3 of which are noisy. I could replace the drives, replace the fans, and then I still may not have a silent a room as could be. That's what I'm thinking. Do you mean something like this or something like this?

I would have to cut holes for cables and ventilation, of course, and also...

    usb hub reliability?

I want to move my tower away from my desk and use a USB hub or hubs for all my USB devices. I remember, however, from past experience that hubs do not always work the way you want them to. Some devices work intermittently , drop off the hub, come back on, and other devices just don't work...

cables with cylinder shaped things on them

Something I read on: http://www.reed-electronics.com/tmworld/article/CA187442.html In some applications, ferrite beads around cables can reduce common-mode currents that disrupt a product?s operation. The USB spec discourages the use of ferrite beads because they may slow a data signal?s...

cables with cylinder shaped things on them

You often see video cables with cylindrical things near the connector. I believe I read somewhere that they are used for switching wires. I see some USB cables that have them also. I would like to know what they are called, and why some cables need them and others don't. Which one is 'better'...

HD in an External optical drive unit?

I have an external CD burner with a USB connection. Can I take the drive out and replace it with a hard drive and will it work in most cases? Or is the hardware in the unit not a true IDE controller that can handle hard drives? Thanks in advance.

    rewiring a power supply

I actually got it working. I connected the PS_ON wire to the MB instead of grounding it, then pressed power button I didn't think to check the fan. Usually with a bad fan, the system will power normally, but overheats after a while, and then crashes. I didn't know a bad fan on a Mac PSU will...

    Modding an ATX PSU

I'm modifying an ATX PSU to work in a Macintosh G4 Quicksilver. That requires rearranging the wires of the PSU connector. I just notice the PSUs use different gauge wire (18Mac vs 16ATX). What would happen if I spliced different gauge wires together? Would I necessarily get a different current?
