If you're looking for quiet, I would definitely avoid the HSF combo's with 60mm fans. These smaller fans have to spin considerably faster to generate the same airflow. Higher speed = louder.

Personally, I have an Alpha PAL8045 topped with an Enermax Adjustable 80mm, but many people have been recommending the SVC GC68 of late. It definitely is low cost, and people seem to have been happy with it's performance. Good luck!

Ridiculous PSU Nonsense - Enermax Hype

You can likely quiet down that thermo-controlled Enermax PSU by 1) removing the 92mm fan 2) replace the stock 80mm with a Panaflo L1A and 3) pulling the thermoster away from the heat sink that Enermax thoughtfully glued it to. Out of the factory, these things take about two minutes and rev up...

Lord Evermore, You might want to check out this. It's a 3-pin connector, but the pins should work in your two pin plug. It also seems a tad expensive but if you need it, you need it.

I agree wholeheartedly. If you don't make soldering an option, you are going to be missing out on a ton of really cool options (like making a fanbus or wiring a rheostat). It's really not that difficult, and is very inexpensive to get started. Good luck!

Unlocking XPs with Conductive Rubbers

Well, rather than paying a whole $6.70 plus a piece of scotch tape to unlock your processor, you could go out and buy a phone to tear apart...or spend more in time and money trying one of the other numerous methods out there. <sheesh>

Mount Car Stereo in PC Case?

Actually, I was thinking of using another PSU lead, wired to 5V, to connect the stereo memory wire. I'm hopeful that will be enough, otherwise, I'll try 7 then 12V. As far as maintaining the power flow, I'm tossing around a couple of ideas. The first is a $10 device (113 0282) from Cyberguys...

Panaflo fans...RPM sensor

In my experience with the L1A, even tailed with a 3-wire connector you will not get an RPM reading. I don't believe the fans support it.

Yes, that's the idea. In a single drive scenario, you want the drive on the end terminal to terminate it to prevent any signal bounce back. In a dual-drive scenario, it simply doesn't matter. There is no performance difference.

wierd cooling?

This is probably due to the decreased air turbulence with the fan turned off. Thus, the HSF is getting a better convection cooling effect. To further the experiment, try removing the 92mm fan altogether and just leave the fan guard over the hole. I'm betting that your temps will fall a bit...

How Exactly Do You Paint Your Drives?

Vasoline. Completely cover the LEDs with a dab of vasoline, spray as many coats as necessary, wipe of vasoline. Of course, if you could remove the LEDs first, you wouldn't risk getting vasoline where you shouldn't and leaving a spot of unpainted bezel showing! :D
