Gains in IPC are irrelevant for ticks because its largely a boost in clock speed. So if you can actually measure changes in overall performance and then make a comparison, then your point would hold more weight. It's not just a shrink to 22 nm, this time it's also a tri-gate transistor, and that...
I feel like your system is good enough to wait a little longer (till next-gen GPUs).
The closer we get to Q4 '11 and Q1 '12 the more sense it makes to wait.
If you can't wait until March-April of next year (with the same rig) then a 2500k + new mobo right now would be a good choice.
I had a dv6, I returned it for an Envy 17 3d.
Battery life is fairly good (make sure you put it on the IGP of course) so if you are browsing the internet you will pull a min. of 3 hours and up to 5 hours.
Surface temperature? The keyboard on the left side will get warm, some people find it...
I'm not a fan of no mousepad.
If you aren't a gamer, honestly, literally any mouse pad will do. I game and I use a mousepad I got for free - why waste money on something that will be marginally better?
So go to Office Depot or Staples or [insert store here] and buy the cheapest thing you see...
There are no OpenGL issues anymore. The problem was fixed.
I don't know about the 460m or 560m - but those cards are generally better than the 6770.
The 6850 on the acer is a DDR3 gimped card - it's not as good as a real 6850 and in fact its often worse than a 6770 in the HP.
Well, I don't even think there is any demand for a new console. People are satisfied with the level of graphics offered atm. And MSFT and SONY dont mind because new consoles means much higher costs.
The thing with threads like these is that how long you can wait depends entirely on you and your preferences. It depends on your budget, your income, how willing you are to spend. It depends on the frames you are trying to achieve, the games you are trying to play.
You can make a better...
That sounds like a bunch of hype. Kal-El and tablets are not powerful enough just yet to replace consoles. It'll be a step backwards.
But given release dates for the next gen consoles are in the range of 2014-2015, and given that Nvidia can meet its roadmap goals, then maybe by then Wayne or...
If you get 30 fps it will be hard to tell a difference.
If you can manage a constant 45-60 fps then you will definitely notice the difference, no doubt about it.
Intel probably has a super majority on all graphics.
Of all things in a notebook, I would say the graphics card is the single most power-sucking space-taking, heat-generating component. Its just not good at all for a mobile form factor.
There's rumours going around about the Macbook Pro...
No offense, but people who get 17" laptops are usually looking for a multimedia and gaming powerhouse and llano processors aren't exactly ideal for that job.
I have AMD HD3D. It works fine. What the heck are you guys talking about?
AMD's model is superior to Nvidia's IMO, no proprietary junk, open so you can use whatever software you want. Nvidia's might work better however, but give HD3D some time.
I'm thinking in the future we will have a Haswell or Fusion processor for a notebook. People with additional graphics needs will either outsource it to the cloud or we will have external GPU interfaces (thunderbolt and PCI Express external).
For now however - Nvidia mobile GPUs suck. I'm not a...
AMD is at a low and the options would seem to indicate a rise in the future.
But I'm analysing their bottom line. Bulldozer doesn't have the greatest prospects and Llano is still up for debate - Intel is obviously going to cut prices on some of their low end parts or market their Pentium and...
Is sound technology valuable at all? Not sure about Via - Nvidia would be the ideal suitor though.
Investors aren't as smart in technology as they are in other industries. ARM is undervalued - for the amount of chip dominance they have, absolute monopolization (qualcomm blows, and they still...
I'm looking to buy some stocks. So far I have these in mind
ARM Holdings
Micron Technology
TSMC?
Based on your evaluation of the future of the tech industry, what would you invest in?
He's in India, so most (if not all) of those sites are out of the question.
I would go with the HP. It's a fairly good machine and gives you good specs.
If you have any questions about the machine, visit: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/
But then you're kind of proving our point. That a tablet is intended for entertainment (twitter).
I'm trying to be a little more open to the idea of tablets. Looking at the ASUS Transformer, it does seem like it has a little potential.
comment fail o_O
As an AMD user for years I have yet to encounter any problems at all. I really don't know why everyone complains about drivers, I can't recall ever seeing an issue with any program.
I will, however, complain about Intel GMA, it's a piece of crap.
The thing is, I'm not some "get of my lawn" grandpa. I'm in my 20s and I'm probably younger than more than a few people here. And even I have trouble seeing the productivity value in tablets.
I'm pretty sure the point everyone is trying to make, Nemesis1, is that
a) Intel has made a lot of claims and few results in graphics. We'll believe it when we see it.
b) AMD isn't going to sit around and wait. Chances are they'll have a fusion processor that works as good if not better.
I...
Competitive gamers have been saying that the Alienware 120 hz monitor is the single best monitor for gaming.
This opinion doesn't consider image quality though
Not really a good analogy because the desktop is much faster than a laptop
It's more like:
OP: "I need a train"
Nerds: "You can get a plane that goes much faster, and for half the price"
OP: "Can it play crysis?"
Software programmers can't even use 4 cores to their full potential yet, and you want 16 cores?
This wouldn't be a problem except for reasons that I don't know because I am not a software developer it is difficult to write programs that can equitably use all cores
Likewise I can say that 120 hz monitor is essential to a computer. But some people out there say they can't tell a difference. And if they can't, there's nothing I can do about that.
Let people do whatever they prefer
That could be done on a smartphone - pretty much any designated use for a tablet could a) be done on a smartphone or b) be done better or more efficiently on a notebook.
Let me put it this way. I find it hard to believe that we will see two separate products continue to exist - tablets and...
I don't see it man, I just don't see it
A tablet is an entertainment device. An ultrabook (because of a keyboard and mouse) allows you to actually be productive and do work.
These two things are so similar I just don't understand why there is a market for two separate devices. An ultrabook is...
