Hi,
Happy New Year!
I have just set up network printing on my home lan.
I can successfully print a test page and a webpage but anything like a 5mb picture fails and gives me the ' remote downlevel document' error. Citing that the Printer is not responding.
What should i do to...
I did a quick google and could find any really good matches for this top so i thought i would post it up here and see what the forum members think about it.
I am kinda curious to know what HDD orientation keeps the HDD cooler? We already know that the HDD can be positioned in any layout but...
you could also try fitting a 9dbi Rubber Ducky antenna!
Couple that with a DD-WRT enabled Broadcom wireless router such as Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 and increase the power from 14-16mW to 50mW.
It will be interesting to know if there have been any tests that detail how many wireless clients can actively maintain decent throughput via a wireless router.
We all know that they can assign some 256 addresses, but how many can actually maintain decent throughput via any soho wifi router?
I thought that Bridge works by wirelessly linking 2 networks by a wireless link. Each network has its own subnet.
And Repeater mode simply extends the existing wireless rage, utilising the existing subnet.
WDS is similar and uses the same subnet but non-overlapping ip range.
If i am...
I have to decide whether to buy a 1.5year old hi-spec system or a brand new current system.
I know the crew here a can highlight the benefits and pros and cons for each config.
The choice is between an older AMD Opteron rig and or simply a newer mobo, cpu and vga card. Presuming that the...
Hi JackMDS,
Thanks for your reply.
That tutorial looks interesting. I must ask that it appears that WDS must assign a new ip range for the network of PCs that it will be serving, yet 'Repeater mode' in principal would allow all PCs to be in the same subnet.
The later is the prefered...
I have been a long time (7 years) Dlink user, however for the past couple of years i wanted to extend the wifi range to share my network with the neighbors.
From AP to furthest remote PC is only 25m. I use 7dbi hi gain antenna's, they help a bit but it still wasnt consistent enough. So i...
Im curious if anyone has found a way to move the location of the Common Files located in the C drive C:/Program Files/Common Files/
Particularly for Norton Antivirus 2005 updates that seem to hog a heap of space.
I am particularly refering to the following parts.
C:/Program...
Hi marulee.
thanks for your response.
The repeater does have the Mac Address of the AP selected and sometimes the pings to the AP work and most of the time they fail.
when a site survey is done on the neighbors PC the strongest signal is the repeater, and occassionally a very weak...
I have an Asus WL500g wireless router and a Dlink DWL-2100AP which can run in several modes including wireless client, WDS, WDS+AP, and Repeater mode.
Ultimately i want to set the 2100AP up as a Repeater but have not had any success at all.
In an effort to determine if the problem is...
Hi nweaver,
Further research on my part shows that the DD-WRT firmware on the Asus WL500g router has the ability to set up a Transparent Proxy Server.
Infact their solution recommends using Squid also.
Please have a look and let me know what you think? And if there is anything else...
The users are unlikely to access the net directly.
My main purpose for this web proxy server for the server to cache and serve all repeat http and ftp requests faster, whilst allowing for active content to be sourced from the internet.
This would be transparent to the end user, but could be...
I found this example on the web.School Proxy server
And although i thought that proxy servers should always be at a central point on the network, the above network implies that it can be situated anywhere on the lan as long as it is directly connected to the router.
So if this is correct i...
I am looking to set up a proxy e-mail server that permits the users on the local net to send each other e-mails without an internet connection. Naturally non local email addresses still need to be sent out over the internet.
I know that if i host a mail server at home this could be done but i...
At the moment i run a number of PCs off my Home Network.
I was looking at theAsus WL500g Premium wireless which has some great features such as torrent downloading, and Network Attached Storage.
But i since learnt that these units are horribly slow with Torrent files, and as a file...
most routers are accessible via its IP address, which is usually 192.168.0.1.
Give that a try, but note that it is highly recommended that your very first time using the router should be via ethernet, so that you can configure the wifi SSID and channel info.
If i was to put the SPA2102 behind the Dlink714P+, and the network is very busy, I believe that there would not be any QoS and voip call quality would greatly suffer. (Thats the only reason why i have it before the Dlink DI714P+.
I will give your suggestion a try, but without a busy network...

OK, its 3.15am here in Sydney, i know no-one else is on my network, so which tests do you recommend i do?
I was thinking about a speed test, but what about a particular test for packet loss etc and any others that you can think of now?
Presently the current network is all working. (except the repeater, that client is relying on the Motorola for its connection at the moment, signal is very weak though)
Just not as efficiently as i believe it should.
The reason why the Motorola Wireless Cable Modem has DHCP is because I...
At home i have a number of PCs that can connect to my network.
The motarola Cable Modem,Linksys SPA2102 Voip Adaptor and DLink DI714P+ are each on their own subnet and are each running DHCP.
The end result is that i seem to have alot of packet loss and poor...
Thanks JackMDS,
Im in Australia.
I can get the Buffalo you linked in Australia as well as the Linksys WRT54G variants, and the Diamond Digital R100 all of which are DD-WRT upgradeable.
The only reason why the Vigor caught my eye was because it also has VOIP (2x FXS ports) so it...
I have only just learnt about DD-WRT fw and its ability to enhance a standard broadcom wifi router, but i have also come across the Draytek 2900 series of wifi routers which come standard with Qo:confused:S.
Im hoping that someone in this community has experience with both products and can...
I have over a 150 PC magazine CDs that i have collected over the years and i want to create my own 'Favourite' disc/s .
Sounds easy right! It is until some of the discs over the past year have mixed up the directory structure of the software so that it isnt as easy as before.
What i am...
I already have a Brother MFC6650MC which is a great Laser MFC, but recently (a few months ago) bought the MP780 to print DVDs and CD (whilst replacing my HP720C which still works a treat, and old scussi scanner)
Has anyone tried the CISS in the MP780?
Im curious how it will be set up if the tanks are on the outside? As this is a Multi Function machine, its not as simple as opening the top cover to print.
I have an Asus P4P800 E-deluxe mobo and like most mid-hi end Asus mobo's it comes with its own OC software called AI Overclocking which lets you Overclock or underclock your PC.
I already know that OC increases CPU temps etc etc, but what i want to know is, if you underclock the PC, should...
Does any one know what is the best program to allow you to print or set up the printer to print edge to edge.
I find that the default settings leave a 2-3mm edge around the rim.
