    Blu-ray is king.

Just to note, Sony has released many formats that had some advantage, but at the same time, almost all of them had an economic disadvantage, thus they all failed.

How do you build an archtechture?

Lots and Lots of man hours and studying. The building of architecture involves many aspects. Theres the math, the actual logic design, testing of that, real world device, testing of that, optimization, etc. Each of which requires different types of engineers and other brainiacs, of which all...

In a normal fireplace with normal wood, on average what temperature would a plate be under the burning wood?

I think the mass of the wood would only come into play only under the circumstance where it is not enough fuel to put the plate into thermal equilibrium. I don't think we need to worry too much about the chemical composition of the wood, but more so rather the material that the plate is made...

    puyo puyo game

Again, this is a highly technical forum. If you were to talk about advanced programming algorithms, new 3d light rendering techniques, etc. , then that would have merit here, but such a topic should be in the programmer's forum. Also, this seems to be homework, which again does not belong in...

    Deffinatly buying a laptop.

The two Asus notebooks that Brain posted are probably better because, jadbox1's notebook is more of a DTR. Have you thought of the macbook pro? It also has a x1600.

    Quadcore NoteBook with 8800gt go!

What if Asus came out with a Quad-core and an 8800GT at 7Lbs and a 2 hour battery life? Would you be willing to pay well for it? Personally, i wish manufacturers would make Tablet with some decent graphics like an x1600.

    Nintendo Wii vs Sword-Play simulation

Well don't forget that is the standard controller. Many Robotics systems use 3-axis accelerometers to keep track of where they are. The same technique can be used in a wireless controller that would send back the info. Only a few main problems exist: Expense : I'm not sure of the prices,but...

how long would a match burn on the space shuttle?

Convection does not work because Gravity is pulling on the more dense air more then the less dense air. Gravity merely aids in doing this. Diffusion on the other hand works on the basis that because all systems try to move to a lower energy state. By doing so they increase the entropy of the...

Memory for Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro

You need to look for memory labeled that it is compatible with Apple Mac's. Thankfully, Newegg does this for us with this. I'm not sure on how picky the new Mac's are now, but you might not be able to just throw in another stick of 1Gb. You might have to buy a matching pair. Hopefully, someone...

    Gen 3 nuclear reactors

Pcy, the problem of nuclear waste has actually already been addressed. Yucca mountain is finally in its finishing stages. The only problem, is that all the nuclear waste we have built up over the years is enough to fill up Yucca Mountain. This has lead to a huge change in US nuclear policy...

    Help with FPGA

You might want to look into the vast array of MPUs that have both an IDE controller and a DDR memory controller. Most companies also have general designs that can be made or even bought. The problem with using an FPGA is that it requires good VHDL knowledge, especially when you are trying to...

Anyone work with and have comments on a Shuttle ST20G5?

The PSU is fine and the cooling is amazing. Don't listen to what SFF-haters say. Shuttle PSU's might not much wattage, but they can handle the same equipment that 500W ATX PSU's can. The cooling is also good. The heatpipe keeps the CPU in the safe temperatures and the same with the rest of the...

HOT! Opteron 240s on Tankguys for $75

Opterons are SERVER class processors. Yes they suck at games, but they were never meant to be there. The Big Advantage here is the ability to get 4 cores later on and PCI-X, which might not seem like much to the gamers, but it is huge. Right now no other bus has server class hardware, and I...

    SN25P Video Problem! HELP PLEASE!

If it isn't getting enough power get a PCIe to Power Molex Adaptor and plug it in. After all, the minimum requirements do state that you need 2 free Molex Connectors so that you can connect the adaptor. If you don't have 2 free connectors, get molex splitter cables.

    If you own a Shuttle SN25P & 7800GT I need your help

Splitter Cables? Get 2. Split one cable to 2 then connect the other splitter to one end and you have 3 connectors, 2 for the XFX cable and 1 for whatever was connected there before. I know my local CompUSA (cringe) has extension cables for the molex connectors.

    SFF w/ 7800 GTX 512?

I'm pretty sure it can handle it, remember that?s 283 watts for the entire system, not the 7800GTX alone. Secondly Wattage isn?t everything, efficiency matters too and the Shuttle PSU's are quite efficient and they are able to handle what normal 500W PSU's can.

    SN26P SLI?

6800's run hotter then the 7800's so if it works with a 6800U then it will work with a 7800GTX. Shuttle PSU's are also rock solid. Wattage is a misleading rating, like mhz for cpu's. Shuttle also says that the Leadtek 7800GTX's will fit in the SN26P.

    DSP board for video stopwatch

The board you linked to is a Blackfin 537. Honestly, the best way to do this would be to create the algorithm, emulate it to see what kind of performance you would need, and then choose your DSP. The 537 is a very powerful DSP. I'm not sure if you would need that much power. There is also the...

    SFF Shuttle SB81P and Zalman?

Uhmmm First off, A64 is better for Gaming. Secondly you don't need a seperate heatsink for Shuttles. They have built in heatsink that works well. Thirdly I know that 7600GTX's fit in both the Shuttle SN25P and the Shuttle ST20G5, from people on Sudhian that have tried.

Have any of you seen this laptop?

Are you kidding me? SLI in a laptop is one of the stupidest ideas to date. With the money you would pay for that, you could find a much better solution. That Laptop is nice though. It would be a good Graphics Laptop if only we could mod PCIe 6800's to Quadro's. I could never spend that much on a...

    Purpose of crying

Well I'd say crying in response to emotion is an evolutionary extension. Emotion does excerise our brain and puts some stress on it and crying seems to help release that stress. It is possible that the neurotransmitters involved are being recycled and the synaptic path that causes that recycling...

Soft Quadro basically makes it a Quadro card. There really is nothing missing except for the enormous price tag and a 2nd dual-link DVI, which notebooks don't have any ways so it doesn't matter.Soft Quadro's can eve perform better, because the Geforce line is clocked more loosely then the Quadro...

Electonics Gurus Unite! What kind of transistor?

Electonics Gurus Unite! What kind of transistor?

First of all that large heatsink gives us the premise that it could even be a voltage regulator. There are 3 pin voltage regulators and that PCB area also seems to be a power supply PCB, or at least power regulation. I doubt a simple TIP120/TIP127 will work. Look at the size of that heatsink...

    Power Usage of RAM

That is interesting. How come Samsung can rate their 128Mb Chips for the same Nominal Power usage then?
  39. M

    Power Usage of RAM

Depends completely on the IC used. Both Samsung's 128Mb IC's and 1GB IC's are rated for 1.5W Nominal power usage. So if that 8GB is made of 8 sticks each with 8 1Gb IC's on them you have 64 IC's. Multiply that by 1.5W each to get a grand total of 96W. most people have 1 or 2 512MB sticks with 8...
