Dell H710p RAID 10 Configuration with SSDs

Thanks for your reply! It turned out the tech mixed up the backup HDD with the RAID 10 SSD partition. We all had a good laugh about that....

Dell H710p RAID 10 Configuration with SSDs

Hi all, now that prices on entry-level enterprise SSDs are dropping thanks to TLC-NAND, I thought it would be a good time to revisit SSDs in servers for lower end clients. However, in testing configurations, I am having very significant performance issues, significant enough that it felt much...

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Forgot to update this thread months ago.... It was the RAM causing all this issues in the end. Even though MemTestx86 gave it a clean pass, switching out the RAM resolved all the issues. RMA's the RAM.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

The drivers are the least of my issues. :) I disabled sleep and it's happily plugging away prime numbers for the last 6 hours, so there's something up with the sleep on this PC.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

So, it went to sleep while playing music with WMP, too. It appears falling asleep with music works for computers, too... It's really strange this whole thing.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Nope, it's the machine, power light is off, GPU lights are off, etc. Lol. The only reason I am running Prime95 is to just to load it to make sure there are no issues. I don't care if it goes to sleep if that's the intended design. But, I don't think it's supposed to do that.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

So far, no power offs, but it does go to sleep every 30 minutes (default sleep time) after not moving the mouse. Thing is, it's running Prime95 the whole time and running at 100%. Is that really considered idle for an I7 8700k? ;)

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Thanks! I actually flashed already, but I loaded the BIOS defaults, too after I flashed it, just in case it kept some settings. I flashed it with Qflash in the BIOS.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

I have the latest BIOS, but I will reflash it, maybe it wasn't flashed well, and is corrupted or something. No dedicated sleep button. Happens on idle, too. Power plan, you mean in Windows? I did a clean install yesterday, and it is still happening, so it doesn't sound like that.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Ok. I changed the fan on Friday. Temperatures dropped to 51C on 100% load, however I'm still having weird issues. It seems to randomly decide to go to sleep even when running on full throttle (Prime95). It's set to go to sleep after 30 minutes, yet it goes to sleep even under load, and it does...

    New build-Odd stability Issues

There was one time that it was showing throttled by power draw. But that was only once. And don't forget, all this was whole running Prime95. In any case, I ordered a new fan and will install that tomorrow, so that will help for the temps. Could it be that there is a bug related to sleep mode?
  14. Y

    New build-Odd stability Issues

It was only a couple of times, and literally for a second. Isn't 100 Celsius still in the normal operating temps for this chip under 100% load? I ordered a new fan, but from what I could tell this doesn't seem like an overheating issue.
  15. Y

    New build-Odd stability Issues

I checked it constantly throughout the first 3 hours of the the 4 hours it ran. Was consistently hovering around 74-75 Celsius. The most it ever got was not more than a couple of momentary spikes to 90 Celsius, and then it dropped right back to 75 Celsius. So I wouldn't say it was overheating.
  16. Y

    New build-Odd stability Issues

It's GPT. I guess next step is to just reimage it and hope that it was some odd windows corruption? I had Prime95 run overnight and it was off again this morning. However no BSODs or errors within Prime95. It turned off after 4 hours. No errors in Event Viewer, only thing it said about that time...

    New build-Odd stability Issues

I have that installed on literally hundreds of computers and have experienced literally zero issues. Also, that was only one BSOD and I haven't gotten that message for weeks. More likely to get generic memory management BSODs etc. and more recently, almost entirely, sudden power offs with no...

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Yeah, I'll get a new cooler, but so far temps seem to be OK. So we'll have to consider other possibilities. Thanks for all the help guys! I am at a loss here.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Thanks. So far stock temps at idle were about 30 Celsius. Running Intel XTU CPU stress test. So far, 5 minutes in, temperatures are hovering at about 74 Celsius. ETA: Ran a 1 hour CPU Stress test from within Intel XTU. Passed. Temps never reached more than 75 Celsius. Also when it just turned...

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Grrr... Was thinking it was something stupid like that. What is the best way to monitor it that tracks the temp, so I could see what it was after it reboots.

    New build-Odd stability Issues

Hi, long time lurker here. Last time I posted I also had issues with a new build. I put together a build a few weeks ago, and I am experiencing random BSODs, as well as sudden powering off with no BSOD or error messages (as far as I can tell) in Event Viewer. All drivers are updated, BIOS is...

Newly Built PC does not start

Ok. Did it. It works! So it's clearly the motherboard.. Oh well, hopefully the return will be fast and easy.. Here's a pic of the psu powering my pc and the case fan of the new build.. I left that plugged in..

Newly Built PC does not start

Ok. While I did not test the PSU. I took out the PSU from my own working personal computer and connected it to this build. No go. So I think we can safely assume that it's the motherboard that's dead on arrival. Correct? Shall I start the RMA process?

Newly Built PC does not start

Thanks! But I don't understand exactly. Where do I get this wire? How do I connect the fan to this wire? Thanks!
  30. Y

Newly Built PC does not start

Ok. I pulled out the motherboard and tried shorting the pins, no luck. Put everything back together paying attention to standoffs again. Still nothing. I think all that's left is to test the psu. If that does work then it's the motherboard.. How do I test it using the case fan? I can't seem to...

Newly Built PC does not start

I couldn't find any switch to change the voltage on the power supply. So I should take it out and try to power it on by touching the the two power pins with the tip of a screw driver?

Newly Built PC does not start

It's one piece by me. It's all the way in. I did notice something interesting now. If I switch the PSU to the I position, the green lights on the keyboard (numlock, caps lock etc.) flash for a second. It only happens again if I wait a few seconds, not if I do it again right away. What does that...

Newly Built PC does not start

Thanks for all the suggestions. The motherboard does not touch the case anywhere as far as I can tell. The outlet has power. While the 24 pin connector doesn't click, it is pushed in the most possible. Plugging in an ethernet cable does not result in a led lighting up. :(.. There is an extra...

Newly Built PC does not start

Thanks for all the help. The PSU is connected to the case fan directly. That's how it came. With a converter/extension. So I plugged it in directly. The bronze risers are in all the places that have screws connecting the motherboard to the case. And no where more. However, I did notice...

Newly Built PC does not start

Ok. Pulled out all power cables and connectors. Did the ram and CPU again. No luck.. :( So I guess it's either the motherboard or the PSU. Correct? How do I test the PSU?
