I have a 5600 which is basically the same as the 5900 just cheaper, and it works GREAT. There are issues with the 9700 and this board. Personally I would stay away from ATI completely there are always too many issues with their cards.

I only have the 4 ports on the rear installed, I tried the printer on all 4 ports, with or without any other USB devices installed, it didn't work. I didn't try installing the other 4 port doohicky. Of course Windows XP shows up to about 22 IRQ's, which I assume is some new "virtual" IRQ...

I agree benchmarks are silly. You can find 10 benchmarks that will show the PC faster and 10 that show the G5 faster. But that article makes far too many bad assumptions like "FP is hardly used" and "most programs don't use MP". Sure if you are going to run Office and Quicken you should get...

AGP-Pro cards are longer, the plastic tab is there to prevent you from putting a non-pro card in the wrong way, which could fry both the card and motherboard. Leave the tab in if you are not using an AGP-Pro card, there will be no performance difference, it's purely a safety thing.

Oh and 1 more little problem, according to the manual I have the SMBus disabled (comes that way by default, I did not touch the jumpers and I double-checked that they were in the DISable position). But in windows, it still detects the SMBus and installed the drivers for it. Not a big deal...

How hot are P4s?

P4's run a lot cooler. My old system, AMD 1400 = 54-70C New system, P4 2.8c, = 42-60C Same case & case fans, same power supply, HD's etc etc.. AMD had a Thermaltake Volcano 5. P4 is retail box, stock cooler.

Update, found a web page on Intel, it says that to check if HT is enabled, either go to Device manager and look for 2 cpus - I have 2 cpu's listed there. Then it says to open Task manager, Performance tab and you should have 2 cpu windows - but I only have 1 cpu window... :( How do I fix this??

There isn't any better than ffdshow, you must have some other piece of crap installed. [/i] Or, you have some driver/hardware problems. Like I said, install the latest ffdshow alpha. The older ones will work for 95% of the Xvid files out there, but some newer encodes it seems need the alpha.

I got a stupid ticket..

Sure most of us do a rolling stop but come on, 25mph isn't even remotely close to a stop heh. If you seriously didn't know you had to STOP at a RED light before making a right turn, then the cop just did you (and everyone else) a HUGE favor.

Displaying video on both monitors?

For Windows 2k or XP, go to your Display properties, "Advanced", click the "Troubleshoot" tab, turn the "Hardware Acceleration" slider all the way down to "None". This will render movies in software. You can also do this to take screenshots of movies if you don't have any other way to do it...

I didn't realize he was asking about "movies" ie AVI/Quicktime etc movies. He said "video" which could mean anything and since he has 2 FT monitors I assumed he'd want dual dvi outs. But if you just want to play a movie on 2 screens I think any card will do that. Just use video mirroring...

Well by extension that means any temp over 105C is life-threatening to the life span? Then why didn't they set the slowdown temp to 105? I still think 134C is crazy.. but whatever. If I alt-tab out of UnrealII it shows 67, right now it's rather cool, if I did the same on a hot day probably...

No, mine doesn't run at that :) It runs at about 45C in 2D mode and 55C after a gaming session. But ... in the Nvidia control panel, the max (shutdown) temp is 134 deg C ?? You can't change it either. Isn't that um... a weeeee bit high? !! As far as I can figure, that's about 300 deg F...
