Question regarding raid array...

A good friend of mine runs a business based off an old Server 2000 box. Two 80gb SATA in raid 1, and apparenty one of the two drives is dead and the array is flagged critical. Instead of replacing another 80, he wants to swap the 80's for 250, rebuild the array, and start that way...

I have a laptop drive and need a certain enclosure!

Anybody know of any 2.5" enclosures that would make a 40gb w/d scorpio into somewhat of media player. Preferably onboard display. I know AIVX makes a nice media center encl...but it requires a remote to operate it. I want all controls and display onboard, even if it's shoddy.

I have one of the dreaded Vaio's with the 20 some odd burnt up capicitors around the processor. Well, it won't take XP or 2k due to the APCI being built into XP/2k and can't be disabled. So I try ubuntu, and it reboots just as xp does right when APCI modules load. Then I try Mandrake...

So have I bypassed the wave of bad PSP units?

and this money is burning a hole in my pocket. Is it safe to buy one yet..I'm worried about dead pixels, and ejecting issues as well as browser problems I've read about.

Thinking of Upgrading and Fixing PC's part time on my own.

i keep a key drive (4gb alienware) loaded with PC Check, All antispy, anti mal, and antivirus programs on the fly. Also lots of HD utilities. also i have a USB/FW/Sata enclosure that has IDE/SATA on the inside. Big phillips head, and one smaller one for laptops. That pretty much covers...

Best handheld....

Just looking for something in the 300 dollar range with the most uses. I need wifi, a good web browser, and any extra perks such as storage and mp3 playing. Just wondering what the best wifi/bt enabled handheld is at the moment JUST for browsing and possibly GPS. Anyone?

Well, so schmoe came in a dropped a hefty chunk of change for new system at my work today (reseller/custom builder shop) So, we get in the 3700+ San Diego, 2 x 1gb Crucial memory, Asus A8N SLI Premium, 250gb WD SATA, Plextor DVDRW, and a nice big fat MSI NX7800GTX PCI-E. Setup...

6600GT questions...

well...bf2 for instance.. I have 1gb of Corsair XMS 3200LL When I run BF2 at ANY aa or af setting, I tend to get video lag at 1024x768. Just wondering what resolution I'd have to go to in order to get my video clean and crisp but also avoid the choppiness. You guys can joke...

RAM grief on my old computer

Yes. That's a simple fix. Check that it's not pushing that 2100 dimm (probably pretty basic memory to begin with) to 2700 speeds. That can very easily cause instability especially under stress.

well, I don't know. These system would be using the current available iso of 32bit Ubuntu Linux. They are also based upon a really cheap Asus mobo (A8V-E Deluxe) and for some reason not even Ubuntu find ANY network controllers during install. Even prompts you "Do you really wanna continue...

That's the problem many Linux users on this board. I don't want to have to use a bs workaround in order to just have my onboard work. Seems like all answers at Anandtech point to "if it doesn't want to work, use a standard 10/100 eth card. Why should I have to do that if there is a distro...

No, I'm no newb to recompiling kernels. I was and have been running Slack on my k6 450 for almost 7 years now. However, I don't feel its necessary to bother with this driver. Modprobe does not show it. The install script is defunkt when it comes to auto installing, the manual install also...

This driver install is annoying, and I'm not going to recompile a kernel simply to get even my onboard working. I can live without the Wireless onboard, but ffs, everything else detects fine except my Marvell.

Mandrake 10.1 Hangs during installation...

What gives? Does SATA need to be changed to IDE in the BIOS since I'm not really running an array? Just wondering because it's really irritating that Fedora Core 3, and Ubuntu as well as Slack and RH do not do this.

Who is the best memory manufacturer?

I like Corsair for warranty, reliability and overall quality. Kingston is also good for budget systems. Prefer Hynix or Samsung chips.

Testing to see if a PSU works?

or you could get an antec, tt, or enermax psu tester. they don't exceed 10 bucks, and they tell if any rails are bad.

wow....that's a ways up there... anyhow...google "building first computer" or something of like if you wanna find good picture howtos....i found 3 on the first page.... additionally, flashing a bios nowadays is mostly windows based...some patriots choose to use dos and a floppy...
