3COM NIC Problem -- SOLVED!

Every 3COM card has a model number printed on it in yellow. The model is something like 3C509 or 3C905B. This model number is near the top of the card.

Is hitting the reset button on every bootup bad for my computer?

Ever hear the term "HEAD CRASH" relating to a hard drive failure. I don't think OC your computer to the point of it not properly booting is worth it (nor the cost of replacing hard drives) let alone I can't believe it plays games without crashing either. FYI: Your hard drive is just starting to...

Where is STICKHEAD?

Help, where is STICKHEAD...what video card should I buy...I know you really HATE ATI but right now they have a pretty fast card out right now...any suggestions on what to purchase based on the motherboards specs I listed in my "profile" of my current system??? PS The 486 running at 66MHz is bad.

I have an IP question

R0b0tN1k: Ah, I didn't see that, (and still don't) I think what he means by "share one IP address" is that is REALLY is sharing one IP, I think he has all of his workstations using the same IP and just turning them on and off. At anyrate I think he is long gone.

Radeon AIW or Asus V7100 DELUXE COMBO

Is there any good, free network layout software?

You can download a 60 day eval of VISIO from Microsoft (yep, Microsoft owns them now, the Borg of the computer galaxy). Pretty easy to use for basic operation. Might as well learn a "industry standard". Hope this helps. H.A.R.M

You might want to consider a amplified splitter from Radio Shack. Make sure you get the one that plugs into an AC outlet and has at least two inputs. I think they may have a model with more outputs too.

Next time you can't see the other workstations, check to see if the "link" light is on either the NIC or the hub/switch. If not, you may have a flaky 10BaseT cable or a bad port on your network gear. If all else fails, download the new drivers for your NICS. If things still are not...

I think this board only has ONE ISA slot (not good news in my world). Some boards offer onboard sound based on the Ensoniq 1373 Audio. There is a BIOS update of 1.07 (ask Moving Target if this is the currently shipping BIOS).

Ah, why didn't you just buy the All-In-Wonder Radeon, it has TV, Video In, Video Out, and capture. But to answer your question, ATI has just released a TV card for the Radeon. I'm not sure if it is on their web page yet.

AMDFreak, I didn't really expect DirectX 8.0 to to improve my benchmark results but I was expecting the 7020 drivers too!!! I think that the DirectX 8.0 maybe helped with the smothing of the heli sim in 3DMarks but it could of been the driver also. But even as you have admitted (as I do too)...

Couple of things you left out of your message. I'll assume your using Windows NT 4.0 with the lastest service packs and you have been able to dial in to the NT server and have been properly logged in. The question here is do you have the NT server setup to assign the IP address to your laptop...

NetBEUI has low overhead???? Ah, NetBEUI is one of the more NOISY protocols you can use...download a packet sniffer and SEE what is happening when you are using NetBEUI. As I stated before, why use NetBEUI anyways, you can't use it for gamming (ever see a option for NetBEUI in network games...

Long bootup delay for TCP/IP

Possbile solution (depends on your ISP), assign an IP address along with the Default Gateway, Subnet Mask and possbile DNS configuration. Use the WINIPCFG program to get this information from what your DSL modem is currently assigning your computer.
