So, I use my personal workstation at home as the gateway for remote Window RDP into my home network. A month ago, it got hit by Sodinokibi Ransomware and all of my files got locked up. For some reason, I was only running the default Windows security software.
The one thing that slightly...
I am not entirely sure what you are asking here. Yes the TCL is connected to my 5GHz wireless network and it's Roku interface streams well. However, my family and I are quite immersed in the FireTV ecosystem and we want to run everything through the FireTV2 that is wired to the network and...
I recently replaced my 10 year old 50" plasma with a new 65" LED TV and I understand how the different tech handles motions. However, it is strange to me that different media players have much different results when it comes to judder and frame dropping.
I run all of my household TVs through...
So, I have an 8TB WD White Label drive in my Win10 server that is getting flagged for having a Bad Block in Windows Event Viewer. It runs headless so I didn't notice any problems until it spontaneously rebooted while I was watching a movie from my media server. Pulled up the Event Viewer and...
Godzilla: King of the Monsters 8/10
As long as you go in knowing that this is a Godzilla movie, you will not be dissappointed. It did right what the 2014 movie kind of struggled with and that was getting huge monsters fighting on screen. The SFX budget on this thing had to be HUGE. The...
I took the little curve and went with a T-Mobile Locked LG G7 Thinq that I found new on eBay for about $280.
After some research, I eliminated the v35 completely. WiFI Calling is a must out here since T-Mobile signal is a little patchy inside buildings. From everything I read, the V35 would...
The mid-range buying advice Wiki looked pretty dated so here goes....
My 5 year old Blackberry Priv is on its last legs and has a few hardware bugs that tell me that it's time to retire it. It's second battery is starting to fail and the thing just heats up like a furnace if I do any game...
I have an old washing maching that is regularly stripping out the plastic agitator coupler that connects to the splines of the metal impeller. It's starting to happen as often as every couple of months and I am tired of replacing the $10 agitator coupling. My only conclusion is that the metal...
The Asus/T-Mobile is solid, especially if you flash to the original Asus Firmware and then load up Asus-WRT Merlin. I had one for a few months but eventually ended up with a NetGear Nighthawk R7000 flashed to use Advanced Tomato. If you are staying stock, I would probably stay with the Asus...
You are really not leaving many options. Sounds like you're obstructed no matter what you do.
All I can suggest is going to antennaweb.org or TVFool and getting some info there.
1) There is no such thing as a 4K antenna. It's just marketing.
2) There are no 1080p channels. There are 1080i...
1045T is the worst here. It'll perform about like the A10-6700 but draws 50% more power.
The FX-6100 is the best CPU here, but the A10-6700 is the best CPU for the things you listed because it's 65W vs. 95W.
For $15 more you can swap that CPU for an i5-3470:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Compaq-6300-Pro-Desktop-PC-SFF-250GB-HDD-Core-i5-3470-3-2GHz-4GB-RAM/222894380880?hash=item33e58a5750:g:l1EAAOSw-ddas80Y
I picked one up about 6 months ago and the $15 would be an easy investment for a CPU that's...
I used HTPCs for years, running Kodi (OpenELEC or LibreELEC) on a Chromebox or Rasp Pi 2. If all I wanted to do was stream my local media then it would have been great. I had my server downstairs and organized everything with Mezzmo. Kodi had a nice Mezzmo add on that made things really...

Took in Game Night for me and the missus semi-annual trip to the theater. I think it's going to depend on whether you like Jason Bateman or not. If you liked Horrible Bosses this will be great. If you hated Horrible Bosses...... well, I pity you.
Horrible Bosses fans - 9/10
Even, the "better colors" aren't real. Most cameras on phones use post processing to touch-up the photos so they are more pleasing to the average person. Usually means that colors are oversaturated and everything is moved into the warm tones by default. The goal of most photographers with a...
All else being equal, you wouldn't even notice a difference from a quality 5MP vs. 18MP up to an 11x14 enlargment since the human eye can't discern that level of detail. Once you've hit about 8MP then the size of the sensor is going to matter more than the number of megapixels.
This is only...
My wife has had a G5S Plus since November and it's the only smartphone she's ever owned that she doesn't claim is "being weird". So, that's a plus.
Updates and security? Haven'te really had it long enough to know.
Quite simply, I need to be able to store video files larger than 4GB on a microSD card with a tablet.
I have been using this since December:

It has done the job until now when it, unsurprisingly, has started to have some...
Intel Celeron J3355 Quad-core 2.0 GHz
The only way that this NAS can transcode h264/h265 in real time is using Quick Sync. It may be good enough for your needs but if you ever need actual software transcoding you are up the creek.
No prebuilt NAS is adequate for streaming/transcoding with Plex if you are streaming from BD rips or personal HD recordings. Others will tell you that they do it just fine and maybe it works for their situation but you have been warned.
I have one FireTV box and 3 FireTV sticks, all Gen 2. All have worked pretty much flawlessly with NetFlix in the year that I have had them. I have had no trouble with the CEC function, either.
The voice control is in the remote. I don't have any Dots or Echoes but Amazon recently rolled out...
If you are looking at software to help you predict HDD failure and do so automatically, then StableBit and HD Sentinel Pro do this with the least amount of user intervention.
For the average person that just wants an always on program to monitor temps and do regular automated surface scans and file system checks then StableBit Scanner is straightforward, easy and just works. I run this on my server and use Crystaldiskinfo to manage smart data and if I need any...
I know I am late to the party but a Raspberry Pi 3 running LibreELEC with that HDMI--->Composite adapter will do what you need and do it better than a WDTV Live.
If it's just the wireless that is giving you problems then pick up something inexpensive to use as an AP and just disable the wireless on the C9.
VirtualLarry may be spot on, too. Try a new power brick and see if the problems go away. Bad PSUs make things glitchy in a router just like a bad...
Put it in a Ziplock Freezer Bag over night. Pull it out and immediately mount the drive upside down or vertically and try to clone the drive or copy the files.
I have had it work before.
Easiest way to tell is in how long it takes for the remux. Most of my remuxing takes about 30 sec per GB. If it were transcoding/re-encoding it would take you 10x that long.
I have remuxed thousands of files with MKVToolnix and never paid any attention to that field. It has never compressed anything. I guess if you want to be safe then set it to "no compression" but in reality you can just leave it alone.
I have been rocking the little Sandisk Clip(s) for over a decade now and love them for the gym but it may be time to move on now.
My music library is uploaded to Amazon Music and Google Music Manager so I would really, really, really like to be able to stream from either service. I guess I am...
I think you got the best deal.
In my experience, unless the TV/picture is absolute garbage, there is no substitution for size when it comes to TV enjoyment. If you are on this forum asking if the picture quality is really that much better moving from an E to a P then it probably wouldn't be...
