The upgrade is supposed to be for machines already with XP, Vista, and 7. Note that on Vista though, the upgrade will not migrate programs. Only settings and data. So, you are just about starting over. That being said if you are starting with a blank drive, the upgrade apparently does not...

The appeal of course is that you can run Windows applications. Even if you have WinRT, you still get the desktop versions of IE and Office. For people who just buy computers and never install anything, that is enough. For those who buy x86 tablets, they are obviously getting real Windows...

One click to desktop is a tile within Metro mode. So having something automatically selecting that tile should be a safe option. Trying to do more than that is probably more risky and may have unintented issues. The time it takes to switch from Metro to Desktop mode is only a second or so...

Foxit Reader's stupid update system

Sumatra is a little too barebones for my tastes. I was hoping that Nitro PDF Reader would be a good alternative as it has some nice features. Too bad it is relatively sluggish. I am getting tired of Foxit and might just use PDF-XChange Viewer as the default reader.

My awful experience with Revo Uninstaller

I wish they still made Remove-It. That program worked well in the 95 & 98 era's. Manually starting a log was not unbearably long; it still monitored after a reboot, and it never removed anything that was not supposed to. These days, I have less confidence in the available uninstallers...
