CMOS reset ?

You should not need to re-install Windows. If drivers are corrupted, you might want to download the latest version for each of your components. Not sure why anyone would tell you to reset the cmos if there is a suspicion of a driver problem.

Win XP Problem

I sympathize, so here is a bump. The only thing I can think of is that you might have a power supply or piece of hardware failing. I saw something like this happen before a hard drive died on me. Also saw it happen (but more rapidly) when a motherboard fizzled. I assume you have not...

There is a chance it might be the CD drive, but I did try two different ones. And I have tried it with the CD drive on the same cable as the HD (CD drive set as slave) and with the CD drive on the secondary IDE (set as primary). I just tried a different cable for the CD drive. Same...

ubuntu comes with 2 CDs. There is a Live CD that installs nothing on the PC. I am able to run that fine. It recognizes all my hardware and sends me into a "temporary" Linux session. The second CD is designed for installation of ubuntu on to the HD. Every time I run any version of that CD...

Board is ECS nFORCE3-A with Sempron 3100. As I said before, the Live CD version of ubuntu works fine. The freeze happens when I try to use the install CD.

The checksum was fine on each CD that I burned from an iso. But I am having the same problems from the CDs I bought commercially, so I don't think it's a CD problem.

Every time I try to install ubuntu (from a disk I bought from ubuntu), I get this error: 4294670.756000 Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. And then the system just hangs in that spot. The Live CD works just fine, but the installation CD always...

MicroCenter is offering the Gigabyte GA-K8U-939 with an Athlon 64 3500+ OEM cpu for $205 AR. Would you rate that a decent deal for the money? What would be a better combo in the $200 range?

Thanks, kamper. Found one. The checksums are okay. I did not let Nero run at its fastest, and I used quality media. Maybe the CD ROM that is reading the disk is bad?

I guess I must be having problems with the iso files I have been downloading. I keep getting checksum errors. I have been burning them to CDs using Nero at a slow speed, but still having the same problem.

Must be doing something wrong. Ubuntu DC starts fine, but can't seem to get past the partition phase. Keeps telling me that I do not have enough space. I have an old 20 GB Maxtor HD in the system. I erased and reformatted it to a single partition before running the ubunutu CD. Any thoughts?

Thanks again. For the iPod thing, I ceratinly want to give the user the ability to managae music, but I also want the program to be able to buy music, just like using iTunes in Mac or Windows.

Like I said, it's probably okay. I would prefer to use a credit card because it is easier to make a claim if something happens. Most CCs now offer full protection for online fraud.

I guess it's probably okay, but it advertises that it is encrypted. At least when I tried to check out, there was no encryption. For anyone using it, I would recommend using a one-time-use credit card number. Certainly would not use PayPal.
