Opty 165 from newegg

That's a pretty damned glib comment IMHO ;) I ordered mine from Multiwave for the "low" price of $309 on Monday night at about 11pm PST. Got it yesterday at 4pm or thereabouts paying $6.60 or so for 2day shipping (useless since I'm 45 miles away, but it was only $0.60 more than ground)...

Opteron 165 0547 from Multiwave

I just got mine yesterday just one day after I ordered it (yay for FedEx 2day when you're 45 miles away) ;) I haven't had even a spare moment to do more than stare at it in awe, but the fact remains that Multiwave has 'em in stock for $309 and the one I got is from the almost fabled week 47...

Older memory and Opteron 165 Overclocking

I'm just about to get my grubby little hands on an Opteron 165 which I plan on overclocking like a fiend (as I'm sure 99% of recent 165 owners are doing). As such I'm wondering if my current memory is going to be capable of handling the pressure. I have Corsair TwinX1024-3200LL in an Asus...

Asus A8N SLI Premium Memory Problem

Because I'm using a hardware RAID5 card, not the anemic style found onboard ;) I'm starting to think you may be onto something, especially in light of the fact that it seems to keep defaulting the RAID card as my "SCSI0" device and the actual SCSI card as "SCSI1".

Asus A8N SLI Premium Memory Problem

They're all off. Loose timings? The only change I've done so far is the DDR voltage boost, but obviously that was of no use. No SATA and no IDE except the CDR (and that's temporary as I'm going to put it in an external enclosure if I ever get this installed). Here goes the complete...

Asus A8N SLI Premium Memory Problem

Oh ye gods I wish this had solved my problems! I just had the misfortune to experience a brownout followed by a blackout which completely fried my venerable and lovable A7N8X Deluxe ;( So since it had been an unbelievably long time since my last major upgrade (closing in on 3 years), I...

Digital Prints: 5x7: 69 cents ea., 11x14 4.99 ea.

I don't know the quality of paper that Costco uses, but they charge $0.19 for 4x6 and $1 for 8x11 (iirc on the latter). And I believe that Walmart has relatively low prices as well.

9800 Pro makes *VERY* loud noises!

Hmm... there is a shim preinstalled, but I don't know if it's realistically removable. Then again, since I'm not even using the waterblock this time around, that's probably not the issue.

9800 Pro makes *VERY* loud noises!

I just installed my shiny new Radeon 9800 Pro (OEM), replacing my trusty old GeForce4 Ti4800 (and yes, I removed the drives and ran driver cleaner software to get rid of all traces). I am using the Catalyst 3.8 drivers, don't have the card overclocked, and have a relatively well ventilated...

P4C800 + SX6000 = $3000 load of crap

Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone... I've been litterally going through the ringer with a SX6000 and an A7N8X Deluxe board! If I boot the system with the SX6000 plugged in , but wth no drives attached, my system boots just fine. Granted I never see the SX6000 BIOS nor any visual...

18" Microtek LCD flat panel at Walmart $399 - it's back!

On The Fly Encryption (OTFE)

I've been fascinated by OTFE for some time, but have yet to take the plunge. Unfortunately, there are too many products on the market, and not enough current info for me to sort out which is legit or just a glorified snake oil salesman. Sarah Dean's OTFE comparison page is an excellent...

Official***Soyo P4S-645DX***Thread

I've only seen one review of this board (Tweakers Australia), and it was quite positive. But I've heard a slew of anecdotal evidence against it's immediate predecessor, the Soyo P4S DRAGON Ultra (SiS 645). Instability, inability to overclock more than a few mhz, etc. Does anyone know firsthand...

845e / 845g / 850e - Is there any major difference?

Well, thus I said "officially" :) I'll grant you that this being an OEM addon is a bit troubling, but then again it's not as if I haven't taken advantage of unofficial FSB... I have very fond memories of my ASUS P2T4 (?) and 75/83 mhz FSB :)

845e / 845g / 850e - Is there any major difference?

As the doubiously proud owner of a shiny new ABIT BD7II-R (845e), I'm worried that I just bought a potential lemon. Is the 845g's ability to "officially" support PC2700 really that major of a difference? Does it shift performance more than 5% or thereabouts? And how much does PC1066 and a...

Just as a point of reference, abilitywholesale.com has a less than stellar repuation at resellerratings.com. In fact, all of the affiliated sites have rather poor ratings. Definitely a red flag, despite the excellent pricing.

Sort of a case questions... Shuttle SV24

I love these little bastards! At least in the looks department. But, but I have two somewhat related questions... can you really put a PCI card in that cramped case? And if so, does anyone know where I can find a cheap 3 (or more likely 4) port serial board?
18. D

Which of these cases is the better choice?

Well, I know nothing about the Maxtop case, but I've built in excess of 100 systems using various 7237s. The only complaint I have is the stiffness of the front bezel. Otherwise, it's a sweet case, though granted a bit plain.

Why do my IBM 75GXP drives keep dying?!?!?

I've got a stack of two (2) 30gb and two (2) 45gb drives, as well as two (2) 27gb (not 75GXP) drives, all dead, all appear to be electronics issues (controller board). On the 27s, I was able to revive with a controller board swap, but not so for either of the 45s, and I haven't even tried yet...

<< The one inch thick part is disturbing. >> Agreed. It's funny... I just "rebuilt" my system, changing out all the IDE and floppy cables for machine rounded ones, as well as cleaning all the fan enclosures, fans and the case in general. Lastly, I installed my shiny new SK6...

Supermicro IO shield problem

Simple problem... I can't find the one with audio ports. I upgraded from an Asus CUSL2 to a A7V133 with audio (I had no choice at the time), but I can't find where I put the audio IO panel. Anyone know where I can find one?

My SK6 needed to be lapped badly!

When I first got my SK6 (Monday afternoon) I was depressed at how badly machine the bottom was! It was replete with a number of ugly swirls and a few noticable slices (I could feel 'em). So I set about to lap it, making sure to thoroughly clean between the various grits: 220 -> 400 -> 600 ->...

thermalright sk6 question

Just installed mine last night... I like the clip since the pressure require to install isn't quite as insane as the FOP38, and it feels REAL tightly installed.

Sure the neoprene would hold more heat in, but 1" sounds awful wide, and it could get rather expensive to quite my Supermicro 760a :)

Silencing the Delta?

I recall seeing a short article a month or two back regarding "silencing" those damn dust buster 38cfm Deltas. Something about placing a dab of silicone at each of the mounting points between the fan and heatsink, using a spacer (in this case two #2 pencils) and connecting them. The...

Heatsink Lapping for Idiots!

I'd buy a book with that title :) Seriously tough, I've half-assed my way through overclocking since when ASUS first introduced TX boards with 75mhz bus speeds :) I'm either geting a shiny new Glaciator, or will go with the more establish SK6 or Swiftech MC462a. Regardless, I'm strongly...

My Glaciator never came :(

My FOP38 sounds like a maniacal dust buster, but then again I've gotten used to it over time. I also have five 80mm and one 92mm case fans (unknown rpm, cfm or db), so that probably helps cover a bit of the overall aural torrent. I'm just worried... the negative reviews *appear* to be...

When the projected arrival date for my Glaciator came and went, I got a little nervous and checked UPS' tracking site.
