asrock 939dual-sata2 with 3800+ X2 processor not posting

Nope, neither the faulty board nor the replacement had a h-pitched noise. There were lots of little issues, but the main problem is that the board would not post at all with 2 sticks of memory installed.

ASROCK 939Dual Unstable with 4x512Mb of OCZ Rev2

Asrock support told me they only support 333 on the board with more than one stick of ram installed. I personally run my 3000+ @ 2.43 just changing bios settings, and running my HyperX 3200 at 333.

Single and Double sided RAM

Yea, it's a crapshoot. If it's old double sided ram, it usually works. If it's new, it probably won't work unless it's specifically described as PC100 compatible, sometimes also called Low Density. Out here it's expensive, over $100 for a 256Mb stick. but readily available, you can message...

AS Ceramique better than AS5? Yes it is!

Sorry I'm so late to the conversation, but I use ceramique too. I don't know that it's necessarily better all around than AS5, but it is more consistent. That is, I get much the same temps with ceramique, whereas AS5 the temps vary more. At times this means AS5 runs cooler than ceramique, but...

chances of hard drive corruption

I put a idential drive in an external Bytecc enclosure, and I ghost my system once a week or more. This keeps my system running all the time, because the only time you have a crash is when you don't have a backup!

CPU Overheating (I think)

Geez, Mechbogart, you didn't offer me any of that pizza...:( Good documentation on a system build, though. You got one of the good Antec cases - I hate the ones with the drive cage twisted 90 degrees. I hope to get around to doing something like that....perhaps in my next life. :P

Is there an effective method for painting keys?

There is some clear coat of 'something tough' that makes the polish last longer on nails - I'm guessing it would work quite well on keyboard keys, with the benefit of being see through. I think it's some form of acrylic?

dropped cpu..bent a pin

For reference, many mobos have a temp sensor that sticks up to touch the bottom of the chip. If it's a little to high, it can cause the chip to rock slightly until locked in with the lever.

I had a similar problem on my 8RDA+ - when the nb chip got too hot, the LAN and sound got flakey. I installed a Vantec Iceberq CCB-A1C on it, and the problems went away.

AS5 is good, but not 40 degrees worth of good. You had your hsf on backwards the first time, and got it on correctly after applying AS5.

What is actually necessary for computer users today

For your wonderful giga network adapter to provide more functionality than the standard 100mbps, you need a giga switch, not to mention giga connectivitly to whereever else might have giga connection. So in a business enviroment where you have such a switch, (oh and let's not forget cabling...

Removing CPU speed limit from KK266 mobos

I can understand replacing the caps on a mobo if you just want to get it working again, but to try to enable the usage of newer chips that the mobo does not support? I guess if yer in prision, and have nothing better to do and can't get a new mobo......:confused:

OCing a 3000+XP

Your processor must be much the same as mine, as we got them about the same time. As such, it should overclock easily to at least 11.5x200, and there is a noticable performance boost from the stock speed.

Won a case..any good?

I've used several similar cases in the past - my main complaint is that there were no holes on the front, so mounting a front fan does not do much. The only draw is from the bottom, and if the case is on carpet, that's blocked too.

As he ^ said, hot plugging stuff in is generally contraindicated, and if you've done so, your board and probably other components are likely now non-functional.

Decent RAM OC: 166 to 220

It's true, the only way to verify that your Ramstinks are increasing fuctionality is to also try WITH the looser times but WITHOUT the ramsinks. Then once you've established that baseline, you can add the ramsinks to the mix and get a result that has more to back it up than, er, well, "Wow...

Has anyone tried to overclock a FIC AU13 motherboard?

OCing a 3000+XP

I'm using OCZ Performance Series PC3200 CL2, so running at 200fsb is to be expected. I've seem some PC2700 that runs at 200, albeit with somewhat relaxed settings, and some that barely even does 166. So it's a crapshoot. But it's certain that one stick is more likely to overclock than 2 in a...
