I previously learned how to move my outlook [2003] pst to a new location and make a permission to allow a limited user on the machine to access the calendar [they would obviously also be able to access my email etc].
I would like to refine this process a little.
Currently my email/caledar...
well I did the failsafe: mem timings to 18-6-6-6; mem speed to x2; turned the performance to standard;
turned off EIST and C1E
now booting fine at 9x333
can tweak from this baseline then! AT least I know I have a base to play around from.
Cheers peeps. Expect more questions when I play more!
ie 667MHz/PC5300?
Currently it is set to Auto [ie by SPD] so sitting at 800MHz.
I read the sticky that 1:1 is best [ie running it 667MHz] but leaving it at 800MHz shouldn't cause any problems should it?
Thanks
I last did any O/C on my Athlon XP 2500+; as you say the GB BIOS is alot more complex than my old ASUS one and the "self tuning" setup threw me somewhat.
I using bios F11 on the DS4 P35 rev 2.0 mobo
I read so much that 3GHz was given at stock that I figured I'd throw it in and see...
Okay I am sure I did alot of things wrong but if anyone could identify the "fatal flaw" I would be grateful.
Currently the BIOS is set to "turbo enhance for my G0 Q6600 on stock 9x266.
Stock vcore
OCZ PC6400 RAM running 15-4-4-5
EIST and C1E etc all default [enabled].
Reading that...
FZ21z comes with the default 2x1gb PC5300 RAM
I want to upgrade to 4gb to make Vista home premium more responsive
Options:
Crucial Site Gives:
Crucial: 4gb PC5300 [667mhz CL5] = £61
Crucial: 4gb PC6400 [800mhz CL6] = £87
I have also found elsewhere:
OCZ: 4gb PC6400 [800mhz CL5] = £58...
I am logging via my home computer to the work servers. The first time I loaded up that app it asked me for some details [workstation location, which printers I was connected to etc] and right at the end gave that error and ever since I get it as soon as I put my password in so I guess it is...
Whenever I try to remotely log into a particular Java App I get the following error after I enter username and password:
"Login Failed
java.lang.NullPointerException"
How can I work out what the problem is and how do I fix it?
More details...
oops! I build a new machine and gave my old one to family [hence ex-pc].
I see. That is a bummer. What about if I delete the dlls that MS reports are causing the errors with device manager?
I hear what you are saying but I use these problems as learning experiences too.
All the underlying...
sisters dude sisters not ex!
since my OP I have tried to install the Display drivers and failed then followed the hunch and reinstalled the mobo drivers and got it back up to speed....
I am not disputing this might require a reinstall but I don't like that as a knee-jerk reaction and would...
well I uninstalled then reinstalled the nforce drivers and that did most of the trick: GFx card was identified and working properly.
reinstalled Firefox
The device Manager is stilled borked; seems the dll that controls it must be hookey.
Anyway to patch that simply?
I know they have been rampant on limewire and I picked up one virus masquarading as a song and another in a [they say as yet unopened] rar file but they are both a month old. no-one done anything for a week to it and the problem only began yesterday.
Mech: I used to do that when it was "my"...
tbh I already have a folder only a month old with all that stuff ready. As it is a machine not at home it is just a pain. I'll try the "patch" solution but if a couple of hours gets me nowhere then it is torched.
sorry what I meant was that instead of doing a full OS reinstall I might see if uninstalling and reinstalling mobo chipset drivers fixes the problems.
Deep down I know though that I will have to devote a weekend day to this task....
true - I have resigned myself to that possibility and will back the remainder of the girls' stuff to external hdd tomorrow [minus the virus-riddled music!] but it would be nice to fix it rather than devote best part of half a day to doing this!
Might try reinstalling the mobo drivers first...
good point boss.
I will d/l and run Hijack this tomorrow.
It wouldn't suprise me tbh: the girls have turned it into a music d/l machine since they got it!
I did a few system restores going back to last week and beyond...
oh the other thing I noticed is that firefox just will not start anymore.
IE can load and access the internet but not FF [my default browser
Turned on my ex pc at my folks and found that after the XP splash screen the blue welcome screen "shimmered" into life and display was very low res [aka before a gfx driver is installed].
got a message that no ATi card device found or control console not installed.
tried to run device...
True - although it seems to be called version 3.0.16.
I am giving it a couple of days as the immediate adopters are posting all sorts of problems getting it installed.
After finally getting some consensus on my security for my desktop [XP Pro] (get Comodo v3.1 and continue to use Nod32 v2.7) I have just bought a new laptop so need something for Vista!!
SO Firewall: Comodo 3.1 here again?
Which AV?
Or get kaspersky Internet Suite [I undertand it is a bit...
just to update: I built a Q6600 system with a passively cooled 2600XT in this case using Acrtic Freezer 7 Pro for HSF and it is absolutely silent with the rear fan on low.
CPU temps 32-35 idle and 49 fully loaded.
Case Temps 35-39C
Infact it is so quiet the wife is insisting I bump the fan...
We've all done it I'm sure:
you get a machine, you spend weeks/months./years tweaking the heck out of it and banishing annoying niggles.
You get a new one and forget how you did most things!
Anyway:
Okay I know the easiest way would be to simply disable the fdd from bios [I have...
by far the best by which criteria?
Firewall effectiveness? Nope
System resources? Not anymore I understand....
User Interface and ease of use? Undoutably IMO
I used ZAPro 5.5 and it was/is fab: effective, lightweight.
I installed ZAPro 7 and brought my 4gb/q6600 quad core machine to its...
tbh I don't want to have to mess about "trying" lots of firewalls. I have every intention of switching to CFP and so am just waiting for the "imminent" release of ver3.1 hoping it will run just fine [rather than having to completely remove ver3.0 as well].
Removed all traces of ZAPro 7 before I...
I just did a complete uninstall of ZA 7 today and went back to 5.5 until CFP3.1 comes out.
Randon glitches and lock-ups etc so I want to remove the ZA variable altogether and go back to the tried and trusted version and see if I still get problems
I have 3 users on the machine [XP Pro SP2].
I want to create a single location so that when anyone clicks on or saves to "my music" [and incidently the same with "my pictures" it goes to a single location "E:\Music (/pix respectively).
I have so have created 3 folder on the E:\Music [users...
hhhmm okay.
Another question then: when I power off the machine I note that my usb ports and ps2 ports still have power [lights on the kb are still on and the usb leads with LEDs still glow].
Internal fans etc are off
As the machine is passively cooled I am worried power to the bridges...
guys could you please suggest a software that will:
1) Benchmark
2) Stability Test
3) load my cpu
My shiny new machine is slow and less responsive than my old athlon system. I know Zone Alarm is partly responsible but I want to get some objective data on the build itself once I remove ZA...
True, so let me rephrase what I said another way to make my position more clear [as otherwise I concur with your sentiment]:
The moderators of the forum of the Firewall I intend to use [based on its many favourable reviews online and on Wilders forums etc] suggest that running a 2nd real time...
Thanks LemonLaw and the mods at Comodo said the same about anti-spyware and HIPS. They recommended running CFP and then running periodic sweeps of the free SAS and not to use a real-time product alongside CFP
