How to quiet down a hard drive?

Although it doesn't get as much attention as the Silent Drive, the Smart Drive is a much better solution for hdd silencing. Available @ SiliconAcoustics.com and Googlegear.com. Reviewed @ SilentPCReview. A more extreme silencing technique likely the same in effectiveness as bluefront's solution...

Need Suggestions on QUIET Power Supplies

ExoticPC's line of SilenX PSU's are reportedly very very quiet - 14dB if you can believe it. Even more quiet than the already quiet Nexus.

Quieting vibrations/resonating

Sorry to break this to you, but other than RMA'ing the drive (no guarantee it will help either), there's not other way to fix it than by decouping the drives from the case. I'd recommend either a NoVibesIII or a SmartDrive. Both available from SiliconAcoustics.com. It means, however, that...

quiet 80x80x15 mm fan, anyone?

80x15mm fans are rare. A solution may be to cut open the grill, remove the inside fan, and replace with a 80x25mm undervolted Panaflo on the other side of the vent. It just depends on whether you'll have enough clearance w/ the mobo & HSF.

The 1st batch of TMD fans (silver body) were reported to have a problem with the casing shorting out the innards. I believed they solved it now. You can tell the difference by the colour of the body. Black body means newer version. Overall, I'm not pleased with any of the fans the YS-Tech...

It is complicated in the sense that it requires a lot of decision making wrt: thermister placement (if possible at all) & picking the fan with the right temp vs. rpm characteristics.

As long as you're not using a thermally controlled fan, you will not need to take any extra steps to use a reg. case fan. If it's thermally controlled, then it's may be a little too complicated for you to get it to work right.

If you can, try not to limit yourself to those 2 choices. There are other more silent PSU's out there, including Zalman, Seasonic, ExoticPC SilenX, Nexus and Q-technology.

Quiet Power Supply

ExoticPC SilenX, Nexus, Seasonic SS series, and the Zalman are all quieter out-of-the-box than any of the Antec's. If you want fanless then go with RSG electronics, TKPower, and ProSilence. But prepared high temps at higher loads (>100-200W), tight fits and non-standard sizes.

You'd be better off with a high-perf HS that can take a slow 80mm fan. 80mm fans are generally more quiet at the same cfm rating than their 60/70mm counterparts. That includes (but is not restricted to) any of the following: Thermalright AX-7, SK7, SLK-800/900, Swiftech MCX462, Alpha 8045. You...

Silent Computers

I'm not gonna get into the AC vs. WC debate here. My suggestion is this: more fans running slow and carefully placed is a heckuva lot easier -- and arguably quieter -- than 1 bigger or faster fan. At 5V, a Panaflo is virtually silent - estimated @ ~10dB (AFAIR). Use 4 fans - at PSU, CPU, video...
