How many of you got dead pixels in your spanking new LCD?

Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP - 1 blue subpixels off pretty surprisingly good, but I don't like the monitor (the so-called "graininess" issue really bugs me). going to try to return it and buy a samsung 213t

question: Web hosting w/ security

I think they'd be willing to pay around $250/month, especially if there was a real advantage. This came up with another client once, and the host sold us a dedicated DB server with shared web server. I was never convinced that there was any real benefit to that.

My new client expects to be the target of lots of hacker attacks, and they are looking fo a new host. What advice can anyone give me about selecting a host and a package. their bandwidth won't justify a dedicated server. thanks

External HD advice

I have had bad luck with both firewire and regular IDE enclosures - it seems like in both cases the little board on the enclosures failed - simulating a very frightening HD failure. removing the enclosures solved the problems both times, so I won't be using external drives anymore as for...

does anybody else make tablets besides wacom?

ARGH! Monitor is emitting a high-pitched whistling sound...

I have a dell monitor that makes a horrible high pitched noise occasionally. It's done it for years. Every few months I jam a new piece of metal or a paperclip under the seam in the hood to change the shape of how the hood fits together and that fixes it for a while. no sign of the monitor...

ok thanks for the info. It seems like nero suggests that UDF is the way to go, but it's hard to make much sense of their documentation. What about ISO / UDF Bridge - wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?

also maybe that's just a different sytax than I use but don't you have to break out of the string to evaluate the variable? $sql = "SELECT id, title, author, section, LEFT(body, 47) as summary FROM articles WHERE BODY LIKE '".$QUERY."%'"; edit: I'm wrong about that - works either way
