Gusty, Thanks for the reply. I will not be overclocking, just standard speeds. Can you give me an example of FSB * Multiplier with a core duo? I'm assuming the 4x (quad pumped) bus has something to do with this. Thanks!

Help with DDR-2 and FSB...

I'm new to the DDR-2 world and am a bit confused how DDR-2 speeds and FSB speeds tie together. For instance, let's say I have one of the new 2.4 Core Duo chips with a 1066 FSB. Do I need DDR2-800? DDR-2 667? DDR-2 1066? How does FSB = DDR2 speeds? Also, what about the upcoming 1333 FSB on...

A64 3500 running with a Radeon8500 64MB Vid?

Your video card will seriously derail any performance gains in modern games. You should consider buying a slower CPU and getting a decent video card.

internet flickering, reboot problems?

The scrambled screen could be an indication of overheating, or of a poor power supply. What brand/wattage is your power supply? And what temps are your cpu/case at?

Could just be a refresh rate problem. Try booting into safe mode. Or, if it is xp, try using the system restore feature.

Computer won't POST on cold starts

try your system with the cdrom totally disconnected. I would also recommend trying it with a different power supply, if you have one available.

Did you try it with a different power supply? For the errors you are getting, combined with the type/wattage of the power supply you have, that would be my first guess. Also, do you have the power plugged into the video card?

You should contact a reputable data recovery service like ontrack or drive savers if the data is that important to you. There are some tools that can be used to recover formatted data, but their success rate isn't that good. Stuff like this...

True, but when I did the Dell help desk thing SMB usually meant sound card drivers not installed. Unless my memory is failing me and it was just chipset.

yes, onboard lan controllers die just as easy as other lan controllers. If your switch died, then I imagine it took your onboard lan as well, it could easily have been a power surge killing both.

What all do you need to hook your PC to a T.V.?

You need a video card with tv-out to start. Either s-video or rca. For sound you just use your pc speakers. You can connect your sound card to the tv, but I don't see why that would be necessary.

From your descripton, sounds like a dead cpu...do you get memory beeps with no memory installed? (you have to have a computer speaker plugged into the motherboard?) If so, you probably have bad ram. Also, I assume you tried it without kb, mouse, hard drives and extra fans connneted?

I know there was a virus that did something like that...I always thought that was a pretty funny virus. Other than that, have you seen if it does it in safe mode? Have you tried the cdrom on another computer?

Did you just reinstall windows? If so, lilithtech is right, you need the chipset drivers. But the SM bus driver is the sound driver, you are right. Check device manager and see what else needs drivers. You can get the sound drivers off of Dell's support site.

Game server setup problem

If you are running a server behind a router, there are two different IP's. There is your general IP address that your friend would see and the internal IP you would use to connect to it. Make sure you aren't giving your friend your internal IP like 192.168.0.2...give him your external IP. And...

Audio skips while playing CD on iWill KT133A w/ 900MHz AMD.

Is DMA enabled for the drive? Do you have the latest sound drivers installed for your card? Also, try plugging headphones directly to the cdrom drive, do you hear skipping there?
