Thanks KF for the insight on case temp... I too think that its the cooling which is at fault...but since i don't have any better cooler at hand.....i tried the following things: 1) cleaned off the thermal pad and put ASII 2) removed the 60x60x15mm 27cfm cooler master fan from the heatsink and...

I dont think its the ram....coz with multiplier 9.0, the fsb and memory can work stable even at 194mhz.........so, when i raise the multiplier to say 12.0....and lower the fsb considerably, even then the highest i can reach is 145mhz.... i dont think its the ram or the mobo.......?!? what do u...

No, not the motherboard. Actually, the xp tbreds come with unlocked multipliers.....so i can cahnge the multipliers through the mobo jumpers.

Is this a sensible upgrade???

The lg48x is kinda giving up on me...so i had to get a new cdrom....and the sony52x coz its the only cdrom in the mkt that supports the ATA66 transfer mode. I think that should make it faster.. vikash

Man, I live in a small city in India. And a DVD would surely be a good choice...but a SONY DVD costs approx $60 whereas a Sony CDRom costs $22. Vikash

Now I have come across the biggest problem... I am unable to find a single copper bottom CPU cooler for my project.....the market is flodded with cheap no name coolers....and the only branded ones available are: 1) Thermaltake Volcano II with 60x60x25mm fan at 36cfm. 2) CoolerMaster DP5-6IC13...

I tried the local mkt...and i have one more choice now....it's MICRON PC2100 cas2.5...this model comes in packaging similar to RDRam.....i think it should be good 4 overclocking too... Any feedbacks on MICRON? vikash

Availability is the main thing here...and its the case with quality RAM too. The only brands available at a reasonable price here are KINGSTON...and TRANSCEND. As for overclockability of this particular 256MB module of KINGSTON, I have sucessfully tested it at 166fsb at cas 2.5. very stable.

I realise it too that the Mobo is not a very famous one like ASUS or MSI, but it is a very good quality board anyway. It has got support for multiplier adjustments by dipswitches. Vcore adjustment in bios from 1.6v to 1.9v in 0.25v increments. Also it had got vmem adjustment in bios from 2.5v to...
