Hmm.. Interesting. So now they're blocking any registrations from those domains? That makes sense, 'cause I was trying to switch to a Yahoo account that I've had for some time now. What "abuse" are they talking about?

What's wrong with my account?

I haven't logged on to anandtech for a while. I wanted to update the email address associated with my profile, but it returns an error 'You do not have permission to post/reply in these forums' I just posted a topic in off-topic and I was able to, albeit locked. Something I'm missing here?

Pissed off...

Firewire is evidently faster even compared to USB 2.0 so there is probably no sensible purpose to provide USB connectivity as a standard. Do the practical thing, upgrade.

Techs: Do you like your job? Have any slack?

My tech job is so laid back that I sometimes wonder why they need me here. Lately the work has picked up a bit (Gee wonder why that would be after laying off half the staff) but it is still essentially a laid back place to be. I can't complain about the pay, it's to par with cost of living out here.

How come my DSL cuts off when i use my phone?!

If you are somewhat savvy with telecom and wiring, I'd dissect one of those inline filters (not the ones that connect to your phone line and then have two out jacks, one for the phone, one for DSL) and wire it directly to the network interface. That way you don't have to put a filter in every...

Do more MP on a Digital Camera mean a better photo?

That's real wicked that he's been running that engine like that for long. My GC already sounds like it's struggling when she's up at 2800 RPM cruising down a highway at 90 MPH, and I tend not to do that for long. There's nothing better than to have her cruising along at 55 MPH while the engine...

Does he have the V8? I have the inline six cylinder version of the GC. From what someone else explained, I guess the overdrive is always engaged on mine unless I step on the gas deep enough to disengage it. I thought it was the other way around, OD always disengaged unless you need some pick-up...

I wish I had talked to my truck's previous owner and asked what kind of gas he/she put in. I bought her from a used car's dealer my pop is real cool with, and the title only shows the truck only having one owner before me.

Yea I saw you saying that before. ;) My pop does have a '95 Cherokee too. It's virtually the same exact engine that my GC has, but I'm sure his has the tranny that outputs a lot more torque than mine. His could probably snap your neck from 0 to 40, the pick-up on it is incredibly stronger than mine.

My dad's Camry is a V6. I must say it is a very low-maintenance kind of car. Other than getting some routine work done for a car hitting 80k (got timing belt changed, other miscellaneous stuff), it's been going on strong.

Yeah.. the Camry is going to get decent fuel milage.. You aren't going to lose as much by going from 87 required to 93 as you would by going from 93 required to 87, but there will be a difference... both in MPG and fillup prices. It's okay. That's what the Forums are here for.. to learn. You'll...

*Admits yes to that question sheepishly* That's my good ol' man's car, and you can't really teach an old dog new tricks too often. ;) Surprisingly enough, he fills up his tank once every two weeks, and he almost drives it to work every day.

Yep, there's quite a big difference. The one car of his I would probably experiment with is his '92 Toyota Camry. I'll eventually start getting comfortable with the idea of using 87 octane. I don't know, blame it on my pop. He always used to tell me never to fill 'er up with the "cheap" gas.

LOL I know, I know. I'm sure people find themselves having to leave their cars at the shop often for all kinds of reasons, and I'm sure cheaper gas isn't likely one of them. I think I'll try that with one of my pop's cars. I'm not sure I want to experiment with a truck that cost me eight grand...

Ahh I don't know. When I more or less know she needs a tune up (rougher idling than usual, less engine response, etc), then I take her to the shop and let them do it. I'm sure she has a long time to go. She still runs like new. I just want to keep her running that way, like new.

Well thank you for calling me an idiot by the way. My manual does suggest 87 octane for my truck. I do find it funny that people who opt for putting the cheaper gas in their tanks always find themselves leaving their cars at the shop for repairs more often. Don't know, maybe general ignorant...

I'm not exactly sure if you ought to trust what the car maker suggests you should use for gas, especially if your engine has some considerable mileage on it. After all, car makers do want you to come back for repairs. ;)
