Microsoft Office doesn't run correctly on a limited account

You are running XP Pro? If so, Right click on My Computer then click on Manage. Check the Event Log Applications. You'll probably see a big red X or exclamation where it is having problems. Check the log to see what the problem is.

It's probably best to leave the system ones running and worry about the ones running under your username. Looks like you have lots of junk running.

why don't you check the event logs to see why it's stopping. maybe you need to change some privs on some reg keys. the event logs will tell you what's happening.

log onto your PC with your "Guest" username and do a RUN AS on the office apps (Shift Right Click on the App to get RUN AS) or is it CTRL?) Anyways, run the app with the Administrator Privs and then close the app. Re-launch it and see if it will run as a limited user now.

Format after upgrade?

If you mean re-install a fresh copy of Windows, then I would. You can try using your existing Windows OS but chances are you'll run into problems when booting up.

Shadow Copies

Thanks Spy!! I've read that article already and many more. I was just wondering how it actually worked if it was per file or per volume. Cause keeping 64 copies of data on 1 volume isn't much. But if it's per file than that's way better.

Can you clarify the 64 copies limit? Does it do 64 copies on 1 file per volume or is it 64 files per volume. Does that mean only 64 people will have shadow copies while the rest of the people are SOL?

Clustering with Windows 2003 Server Enterprise

Thanks for the input. I didn't even think about the software. The licensing doesn't support clustering so there goes that idea.

Messenger system?

Considering it's not MSN causing the problem don't run what Budman just stated. It's not MSN Messenger causing the problem but Messenger service that hopejr stated.

Does anyone know where XP gets the information from in order to put your name on the start menu? Is it just %USERNAME%? If so, then does it hide this command in the registry somewhere?

DVD/CD Tray will not eject

try opening and closing the tray while windows is booting up or go into the bios. if it is working fine till you get into windows then u know it's a problem with software and not the hardware.

out of the ballpark but maybe it's set to boot off a usb device on the bios?? can't of another reason why sorry.

External Hard Drive vs Tape Drive Back-Up

Does anyone have any preferences?? Any stories to tell about using each technology? I have a few servers at work that requires a back-up device and I am trying to decide which is better to use. There is probably around 400 GB of data to back-up.

DOOM 3 and ATI problems

I am just playing the game with an ATI 9800 Pro. Works fine. Don't know why everyone says the graphics are good. Most of the game is in the dark. Game sucks. I don't recommend it. Same thing everytime. It's dark and monsters jump out. It's a lighted room but then the lights go out...

YAY! Just got a free Seagate 80GB IDE drive

Yeah...Cable placement doesn't matter when you use the master and slave jumpers...only when you use cable select. Read the manual and it will even tell you.

Help...PC randomly reboots

I am running windows XP and I have automatically reboot on blue screens disabled...but I am getting random reboots and for the life of me I can't figure it out. Any clues on what I should be looking for? I have a 300W PS running a Celeron 1.2, 2 Hard Drives, DVD burner, video, sound and NIC...

Intel Celeron 2.0+Ghz

Is there anything wrong with the new intel celerons? I know that before they were not great but I they a good cheap alternative to the Pentium 4? Anyone got a link that shows benchmark tests?

Sidewinder gamepad, XP Pro

i have xp and 2 of those gamepads. both detect fine for me...only difference maybe is that i use dx8 instead of 9. that is all i can think of that would make a difference

Best digi camera for 200-300 (or so)?

the a70 has manual features...the s200 is fully automatic i think. the a70 uses the new digic processor also. i have this camera and think it is awesome. if you want a little cheaper then go with the a60.

HP 612 Camera W2K Drivers Anyone?

Does anyone have a link to where I can find Windows 2000 Drivers for the HP 612 Camera? HP wants me to give them money for the CD. You can't download them from HPs website. The camera is not new so I didn't get any software with it. Help plz.

I have a toshiba laptop and a newer projector. I can see windows 2000 fine, but as soon as I play a quicktime or real player clip, it only shows the window. It doesn't play the clip. It shows a black screen. I tried changing the resolution to 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 at a standard 60HZ but...

Keyboard issue in intense FPS battles

Maybe turn off the repeat typematic keys in the BIOS? or whatever it is called. type rate? So that if you keep your hand on A or W or S or D it won't spam a crap load to the OS?

What does "active" mean on a HD partition?

You can use FDISK and chose the partition with the OS on it and change it to the active partition. ** I don't know if this will cause problems though better to get more thoughts **

power supply fan

I just replaced my power supply fan...but the thing is so loud now. Is there anything I can do to change the volts on it to make it quieter! There are only 2 wires. Black and red. Can I put a diode in series with it to clamp the voltage down?

if a mobo doesn't sport 512mb ram will it show up as 256?

If the motherboards doesn't support a stick of 512 then it will not show up correctly...the motherboard may still support 512...just not all in 1 stick.

"to the poster directaly above me, thats been said before, contribute useful information only" So your saying creating back-ups isn't useful information? I am just stating that if this data is your life then why risk it, back it up. Raid-5 is good but what happens if both hard drives die...
