Floppy drive problems

There's no plastic at all blocking the floppy drive. It's a custom-built PC with a standard flat-front design. It's nice and open, like this one (but black and shiny, of course :D) Using the same case, the old floppy drive of mine worked flawlessly.

Nothing you suggested worked. I'm probably going to have to replace some vital, expensive part such as the processor or the motherboard. The motherboard, most likely. If it comes to that, hopefully it's covered under the warrantee (sp?).

Nope. I checked, and it looked fine. It's faceplate is screwed in securely. Also, it wouldn't make sense that it would become unseated, because I haven't moved the computer in months (at least until it stopped working, then I pulled it out and pulled off the side). It worked fine last night...

Upgrading RAM worth it?

I currently have one 512MB stick of Corsair XMS PC2700 in my machine, and I have some money to spend. I'm thinking of upgrading to PC3200. Would the price be worth it for the performance boost?

19" LCD and ATI 9700 pro

I don't think you're going to find a really nice 19" LCD for gaming for at least a few more months. From what I've read, if you're looking for some sub-20ms pixel response time, you'll need to get a 17" LCD. The only one that I know of that is on the market right now is the Hitachi CML174...

Yeah, I could sue them if they didn't unsubscribe me, but I wouldn't want to go through the trouble. I just want to give them my two bucks, and unsubscribe if I don't feel that the $6.95 per month is worth it.

I already have a CD-RW/DVD-RW drive in my PowerMac, so I won't need one in my PC. I don't watch DVDs anyway. Good idea on the RAM--cheaper is better :D. I'm trying to keep the PC as quiet as possible, and that's why I haven't decided on fans yet. BTW--What's HS/F?

Well, seeing how I'm inexperienced in things like this, probably none for the time being. Maybe I'll get adventurous :D. It would be nice to overclock this thing to a 2.5GHz or so, but it probably won't happen. I'm too cautious. Edit: Note to self - it ain't a P4.
