Length of 6800GT/X800 PCB?

I guess I'll have to go with the ATi, then, considering the extra length of the power connector sticking off the end. Too bad they can't rotate them 90 degrees to point away from the motherboard instead of parallel to it..

Length of 6800GT/X800 PCB?

I have an Antec 1080AMG and my PNY 4400 just barely fit between the edge and the hard drive. I want to upgrade to a new card soon, but need to know if it'll fit. Does anyone know how the PCB sizes compare? Are the ATi cards any shorter?

What did you score on your SATs, if you remember?

I only took it once.. 1400, with 710 verbal 690 math. My PSAT was good enough to be a National Merit Finalist, but not good enough to get me any scholarhips :(

Dell 1800FP Panel LCD for $431 (9-11 only!)

I bought a 1901 from the last deal a month ago. There is some ghosting in games, but it doesn't bother me most of the time. hmsrolst, I like the rotation for writing and reading stuff, and the nvidia drivers have it built in (I think the ATi ones do, too) but I haven't found a way to make it...

Office 2000 with SR1a stuck in installation loop

This is the second time I've had this problem, and was hoping there was a better solution than the one I'd come up with: I log in as an administrator and install Office 2000 using a legit CD key. I then install SR1a, then SP3, then the hotfixes. I open up Office and there are no problems, so...

Would a gamer have any use for 2GB RAM? *Includes POLL*

I agree that by the time programs will use 2GB of RAM you'll be upgrading the rest of your system anyway.. I wouldn't buy it.

is $30 for this UPS good deal?

If you need a UPS, I'd get it. It won't have any of the monitoring options, so it won't shut down your computer for you, but it'll give you time to save your stuff before everything dies.

Burnt CPU looks like...?

I did that once, putting a 3.3v DX4 into a 5v socket1 motherboard. There was a pop, a sizzle, and the CPU actually partially melted into the socket. When I finally pried it apart, one of the holes on the socket was solid black and the pin was discolored. It actually cracked all the way...

Do I need 1GB or RAM for gaming?

The only thing I had noticeable problems with on my P3 with 512MB of RAM was opening huge TIFF files. I bought 1GB of RAM with my 2500+, but that was mostly due to: wanting perfectly matched DIMMs for dual-channel, thinking that I was going to need 1GB sometime during the life of the system...

You should use 133/133. Your computer died on you at 166/133 because your CPU couldn't take the higher front-side bus speed.

My server's on an old Back-UPS 300 that doesn't have monitoring, and it'd probably be more trouble than it's worth to move my big UPS down to the server room and back Turning SETI off made me go from 186 to 180, with System Idle Process hovering in the 97-99% range. I think the UPS being worth...

heh.. WOW was my memory off. With monitor, it was at 288 watts, without it was at 186.

BIOS version on nforce2 NF7-S 2.0

If you get into the BIOS, it's on the right-hand side under the bottom option at the end of the ID string FWIW, the latest version is 16 but the NF-S 2.0 I got from NewEgg in June was on version 14, all the way from March. At least it was easy enough to fix.. Abit's got a windows-based flash...

I'm always running SETI so the CPU (stock speed) is always at 100%. I'll move the monitor to a different port tonight and get back to you.

How can you find out how many watts your computer is drawing?

I don't know if you have a recent-model UPS that might tell you exactly, but my APC Back-UPS RS says that my 2500+, 3 hard drives, GF4, and 17" monitor combine to eat up ~290 watts. I'd imagine that you might be around that, depending on your monitor. My memory was WAY off.. it's currently...

If you told us what model motherboard you were using, we could at least tell you whether you would have to change a jumper or a BIOS option, possibly even exactly where said jumper is. If it's a BIOS option, the way to get to it is usually by hitting delete while POSTing, then enter the top...

The model on my 8MB/3 Year Maxtor box was L01J100, and the box specifically said 2MB and 1 Year. You have to look at the vertical code on the sticker. The 8MB ones would have, at least on the Maxtor boxes, a code of P6Y3. I don't recall what the code for the 2MB drives was.
