I'm kinda hating my above proposed schedule....
Probly cannot meet. Cluster servers will be fairly easy... Point of Sale units will be tougher. They may be sitting on shelves until Dec01... not sure yet.
But we'll still spank ya, Federation ;)
Goal: Pass the Fed's b4 the end of SAH :)...
Engineer, you guys are goonna have to match 30 x XP2600's. (some deployed this week... WILL BE done by Fri.)
plus (In a week assuming I can find enough crap to get them power/ethernet):
25 x ~XP1900's @ 333mhz bus speed. Freewolf will make sure they're crunching (I've got plenty other crap...
You guys better ramp it up or you're toast (unless the ship comes to shore) :D
And watch out; I believe the RA is gonna pass ya (the feds) b4 seti ends
Thankee for the stats :) (Not trying to be an ass; I do appreciate the stats... just egging you on.)
:)

Worth reading... interesting comment here I think you guys should consider (who have boxes that do nothing but seti with their HDD when 'idle'):
"I did something similar too. I didn't like the hard drive constantly running so I ran the...
Dang; Sandbaggers ahead...
How much time we got left?
Gonna get busy tomorrow :) 29 XP2400's in.

I've unfortunately got to admit the hanging one was a recent addition of mine :o
We've got a real mess now; installed one of the new switches (partially) today... I'll do some before during & after pics :)
Any cable management advice would be welcome...
Adding 1 48 port and 1 24 port switch...
I'm not gonna have time to do this quickly... I'll bet someone does it before I have time to start... documentation is a hard read and I haven't yet had time to install boink & play with it....
I'm super busy right now.

I see you've managed to get online. Cool.
Got most work machines going to work queue now. Totally redid the network today. Have fun on vacation :)
Work Queue
Got the new 'Point-of-Sale test unit' aka my home media pc in... neat. Barton 2500 & Shuttle NForce 2... no floppy, no cdrom... got a snazzy $150 usb cdrom to install os/whatever with.
Will order 24 more Monday :)
But they'll probly be XP 1700's w/256mb ram running Win2k.
29 XP2600's coming...
We may recieve 30 XP2400's tomorrow :)
Will take some time to set them up, though.
Good thing I'm working this weekend :)
I guess the team should be happy my jetski's broke :(
My poor broken ski
But I may need to grab many power splitters.
I'm not sure this is a solution but I'll bet it is...
Set you up a setiqueue at home and make it's default port is 80... I bet that'll work fine. If you can surf @ work, you should be able to upload results to a queue on port 80.
Edit: If want me to I'll set you one up to use. (PM me)...
I haven't seen any benchmarks but my guess would be around the same performance with 2.6 with better multitasking performance. (2.5/6 has some nice benifits for multitasking desktop users performance wise). It may vary by project... no clue.
I've got two identical boxes; maybe I'll benchmark...
Berkley states boink is open source so it ought to be super easy to make a little boinkQ... especially if it's command line based... and make hooks for someone to make a gui out of it if they want (I'm too lazy).
I haven't easily been able to find info on boink (there's no listing on...
Only ~26 of the 2400's will be crunching... but everything crunching will be 24/7. It'll be a few weeks before we get the 1700s in (I'll order a test unit next week). The 2400's should be here soon :)
Thanks for the stats, Engineer
Wierd. I have no clue.
Linux sounds like a good plan :)
If you need to download Knoppix this should be speedy:
Knoppix Torrent (the new 3.3 version that came out this week)
I'm slacking and am probably going to need to cancel the order (was a flat panel promo that ended sunday... got 1hp test unit and 1 dell test unit coming in... will order another 29 or so in a week...
And another 20 or so Point of Sale machines... maybe Shuttle Nforce2's with 1700's or so in...

If you can carefully follow directions, try installing Gentoo. It'll teach you a good bit pretty quickly about how linux works; their forums are a great resource if you run into trouble and the Install Guide is excellent.
Gentoo & Debian are two of the easiest to manage Linux distributions...
Remember that Seti was originally setup 3+ years ago.
Ok.. and it was free software then.
I believe that the BOINC stuff they are working on will be open source.
I hope so.
There really is no need at this point to open the source code up on a project that has a definite ending timeframe...
Here's a page describing some history:
Free=good
<RANT>
I'm new to SETI@Home but I'm quite irratated because I believe the client software is very poorly optimized (though I have no proof because I'm not an assembly guru and don't have the source code to look at).
Why would fixing a buffer...
Speculation on my part, but I think tom was using a single instance of Seti for those #'s.
2 x Xeon 3.06 (3066/133/2x133): 1:20
1 x P4 3.06 (3066/133/2x166): 1:35
I'm assuming a single Seti thread here's running on the Xeon and the Xeon completes its job faster due to a larger cache (though...
Aah; nevermind... got it. I had setiqueue set up with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 (which is the subnet of my lan) and it apparently didn't like connections from one of the two outside ip's... wierd; I'd think it would be all or none.
Anyhow, changed to 0.0.0.0 and it's working :)
Thanks for the welcome, guys.
I've set up a little queue of my own just to monitor the machines I have running seti... it's a child of another setiqueue server. Everything seems to be going well now (after a few misconfigurations). Every machine on my lan is working fine and I have two...
