Help with this cheap upgrade choice - P4, Athlon 64 or Athlon XP?

I'm thinking this is probably the route I'm going to take for now until I can do a major upgrade. How do you think the performance of an OC'd 2400/2500 modile will compare to a new Atlon XP 2600 processor? Thanks, Rob

Help with this cheap upgrade choice - P4, Athlon 64 or Athlon XP?

Will a current AM2 board be able to support dual and quad core processors in the furure or will I end up needing a new board again? This actually sounds like a great idea, but I can't seem to find a AM2 board that uses DDR memory and has an AGP slot.... -Rob

Help with this cheap upgrade choice - P4, Athlon 64 or Athlon XP?

Thanks for the advice, but do you have a link to the motherboard? I have not seen a socket 939 board that also has an AGP slot? Thanks, Rob

Help with this cheap upgrade choice - P4, Athlon 64 or Athlon XP?

Thanks for the info. Yes the board supports 400mhz FSB, so the Athlon Mobile is an option though I haven't seen these for $50? Why would the AM2 Sempron be better that say a P4 upgrade or an Athlon 64 processor? Thanks again for the advice, Rob

    A7N8X Problem

I've also tried a bios update. I'm currently running 1002.003 and I'm going to try 1002 final tonight. My vcore is at 1.75 in the bios and it runs perfectly stable in winxp running prime95 and other apps. The weird part is that it only happens when it's left off for more than a few hours. It's...

Which PSU? SL350 or Trupower 330?

I'm going to pick up a new psu to replace the cheap generic one I'm currently using. I've been having problems with my system rebooting due to fluctuating voltages when I start to overclock the AMD 2100+ Tbred. I'm trying to keep the cost to a minimum and I've narrowed the choices down to either...

I just put together a system with an AMD 2100+ tbred w/ Volcano 7+, Asus A7N8X (not delux), 2 sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200 and a Gefore4 TI4200. I currently have the processor running at 166x12.5 and it is completely stable running Prime95 all day long. The problem is when I shut down the...

VCore varying - Is it the PSU?

    Thanks again... The ratings on the PSU are: +3.3v = 28A +5v = 30A +12v = 15A +5vsb = 2A -5v = 0.3A -12v = 0.8v They actually don't look to bad, but I'm sure the regulation is poor... I'll look into getting something better.

VCore varying - Is it the PSU?

Thanks for the info. I pretty much figured it was the cheap PSU. Is the vcore controlled by the PSU or is it from the motherboard? I'm interested since the other voltages seem to be very stable and only the vcore varies up ad down.
