Losing faith in Windows Phone (in America)

Thanks, I will have my wife check it out. I don't use Instagram myself but have usually had reasonable luck finding third party apps for my limited needs, particularly You Tube alternatives. Hoping the bank apps come back with the unified Windows 10.

Have you sped up your upgrade cycle, slowed it down, or neither?

How Usable are these Atom tablets?

I had a venue 8 pro, liked it but returned it for an Asus vivotab note 8 for the wacom pen. I'm 62, for me the 8" screen is tough to use for office apps. Might be better when Microsoft releases Office for touch screens. Last I read is they are set to release it sometime 1st quarter of 15??

How Usable are these Atom tablets?

I have several Atom based tablets, the Dell Venue Pro 11 is by far my favorite. I have both keyboard types, also get about 15 hours with the one with the battery.

Are phones with removable batteries and SD card expansion slot going to continue?

I'm one of the few that prefers a Windows phone so I somewhat follow what is happening with those (Lumias anyway), not much consistency from them but at least the new 830 has both of those features. Thinking of replacing my 920 with one.

New Lumia 830 launching on AT&T

I got to check one out at the Microsoft store. Really liked it, the one thing that makes me hesitate is that the 830, from what I have read so far, will not support "hey Cortana" when it is released. If I understand correctly, of the currently available phones, only the 1520 and 930 (Icon)...

Nokia 1520 is the best phone ever..

There is actually a limited way to flash ROMs that exists now through Nokia Care Suite. I just flashed my ATT 920 to the Rodgers (Canadian) ROM. I don't know much about the functionality, probably limited to official Nokia ROM's. I'm surprised that XDA hasn't came up with something yet...

Windows 8.1 tablet on AT&T Wireless?

I'm on straight talk on AT&T's network. I use internet sharing on my Nokia 920 to connect my 8.1 tablets (and notebook) to the internet. Very workable solution for me.

This site (Windows Phone Central) is decent as far as keeping up on most things WP. http://www.wpcentral.com/ Most news these days seems to be on apps though, I haven't seen much hardware related that hasn't been mentioned in the previous posts. I think there is a new low cost 520/521...

Kind of like ink cartridges for printers, they sell you the tool (or printer) cheaply but make it up on the peripherals. That said, I've been watching these and this is a good price for these 4 amp hour batteries.

SSD installed but no performance gain

I had the same experience with a Gigabyte AMD board with the Marvell controller. I retired the board fairly quickly, it really bothered me not to have a proper sata III port.

I agree in spades on androids file system. I have a couple of android tablets that I use only occasionally since I got a windows tablet. I would never consider another android machine - especially for work/school/research use. Cruising the net checking email and watching an occasional movie...

How badly did you get hosed on your first SSD?

Funny how that works, my first SSD's were 2 80 gb X25's that are still going strong, but I had one of my Vertex 2's fail. Think I paid around $240 each for the X25's. I never had any regrets on any of the SSD's I bought, maybe 15 total now. For me they were worth the price paid.

bay trail tablets are awesome

I'm still using a HP Elitepad with a clovertrail. Like it for the most part, but it is really slow for some things, opening office apps specifically. Curious how much faster bay trail is for this.

Finally wound up with an Ivy based celeron 1017u. The PCMark score was 1487 compared to 1054 for the A6-1450. Pretty much all of the individual scores - except for graphics - were better (~20-35%) than the A6. Each machine had the same 4 GB of memory. Uses a bit more power than the A6...

Looking at a couple of 11.6" laptops - they are spec'd out pretty much the same except for the processor. Any compelling reason to get one over the other? Leaning towards the AMD unit (Dell) as it has Bluetooth, the Intel (Asus) doesn't. Just using this in the field for small 1-2 page...
