NOOOOOOOO!!!!

That high-pitched sound the WDs make, is it loud and obvious? I think my 80gb is making that noise but I'm not sure, it's not all the time and when I hear it it's very low.

splinter cell

Well, the Xbox version was locked at 30 FPS. In my machine (1600+ and Ti4200) I can squeeze a fairly steady 30 (usually higher) in 10x7 and every detail maxed out and no AF or AA. I hear the 1.1 patch also increases performance considerably. I'm about to upgrade my rig so I'm gonna buy the game...

Yep, about 600 ms for two way. Even more (I've heard about 800 ms) for one way.

Yep, a conflict it is. If I were in your shoes I would do a backup of everything that you need and format. That, way, you can be sure everything is clean and the way it's supposed to be. Of course, it's up to you what you decide to do, you might very well be able to fix this without formatting...

Would it be possible to 'mix' AMD chips and Intel chips?

Ideally, somone would design a CPU wich combines the low-latency of Athlon chips and the heavy-weight processing of Pentium chips

what memory do you use?

I have one 256MB stick of Samsung PC2700. And just the other day I went to the same store I bought it from and asked for another 256MB stick, I just assumed that they where still selling the Samsung ones. But they weren't and when I got home I figured out I had gotten some generic crap. Oh...

What kind of precautions do you take while installing new hardware?

Well, I touch the case. Now that I think of it, I have to touch the case in order work in it. Anyway, a static charge unloading itself from you onto the equipment and actually damagin something is a one in a million... erm.... at least a one in a hundred.

Even if you buy an 8x card your 4x AGP won't slow it down at all. At least not in the near future.

Would 5 Blue LED fans light up a case as good as a cathode?

Laser-LEDs are really freaking bright, there are laser leds in those keychains someone was talking about here. Normal LEDs are not nearly as bright. I doubt they have laser-LEDs in those fans, probably just normal ones.

Thermaltake Volcano 9 question

I just bought a Thermaltake Volcano 9 and in the package I got thermal tape and white thermal compound (paste). Wich one should I use, and if you recommend the paste, how much paste should I apply and should I only apply it to the core?

MSI GF4 Ti 4200 OC?

I have a MSI GF4 Ti 4200 128Mb and I was wondering how high I could overclock it without additional cooling. Anyone? That card is coupled with an Athlon XP 1600 and 512Mb PC2700 RAM and in Unreal 2 on High-Medium settings and I´m gettin an avarage 25-40 FPS, wich is barely playable. Also, could...

You need to unlock to lower the multiplier? I didn't know that, heh. I'll be getting a new CPU soon anyway so I guess won't go into this now. Thanks for the help though, guys ;)

Synchronising FSB and RAM?

Where in the bios can I see the PCI frequency, I can't seem to find it? Would it be alright to just try and set the FSB to 166Mhz and multiplier to 8,5 and boot to windows and see what happens? Would I be risking anything?

I have a Msi 745 Ultra motherboard, I don´t know if it has that. But increasing the FSB and lowering the multiplier in accordance won´t increase heat will it? Can I do this with the stock cooling that I have?

Performance increase from a GF4 Ti4200?

I have the GF4 and Athlon I mentioned on a MSI 745 Ultra and 512 MB of RAM at 333Mhz. I think I´ll just wait a while with upgrading and and when I do get a high perfomance video card and a new CPU to get a bigger performance jump.

Synchronising FSB and RAM?

My current settings in the BIOS for my Athlon 1600 XP are 133 FSB and a multiplier of 10.5 and FSB/RAM ratio is at 4:5 to get my PC2700 RAM running at 333Mhz. Would it be better to synchronise things and have the FSB at 166 and lowering the multiplier to about 8,5 (if that option exists)?

Performance increase from a GF4 Ti4200?

I have a Athlon XP 1600 and a GF4 Ti4200 and they're already starting to fall a bit behind in games like Unreal 2. My question is, will buying a Radeon 9700 Pro increase my perfomance enough to justify buying it? And, will I be getting enough out of the card even with this CPU?
