I assume it has everything to do with a competitor (TigerDirect) being there...who, after obtaining the CompUSA brand, re-opened some retail B&M locations in the So. Florida area.

You may be "Child of Wonder", but your reading skills are lacking. There's no possible way you're going to change yours with synthetic oil (which is what this post was about) for half the price.
I had the same problem with 1.5 TB Seagate. Then I stuck in a WD10EACS (Western Digital Green Power 1TB) and it formatted fine.
I've since updated the firmware to 2.1 and was going to try the 1.5 TB again. But based on your experience, I won't bother.
Actually, Sony used 2 different OEM's. Some of the Eye Toys were made by Logitech, the others by Namtai. There are 2 sets of drivers depending on the hardware version you have.
