Thanks. Problem solved with a new Power Supply.
The lit green LED on the mobo was what threw me. I figured the board was getting power and maybe it was but not enough to boot the system.
All is well now anyway with a new PS.
Inwin 500 case w/PowerMan 300w
Intel 845PEBT2 w/2.8 P4
System has been running fine for a year and will not power up now. Is the power supply dead? Small green LED on the motherboard lights up but no system powerup. Also, normally I would see small light come up when I plug in LAN cable to...
Just an update -- Intel has a great warranty!
Received a brand new 2.8 'retail' processor from them to replace the one that I broke the pin off of.
That was a big relief! :D
Thanks for all the feedback and 'moral support.'
Just got off the phone with an Intel rep after telling him my sad story and I'll be RMA'ing the CPU back to them. He made no promises but stated that the warranty dept. was "usually pretty good" with "these kinds of cases" and I could "probably"...
Wanted to replace the stock heatsink on the P4 on my 8INXP and to make a long story short.....didn't think I exerted that much force pulling the sucker off but......I pulled the CPU right out of the socket, bent the pins, broke a pin off and the 2.8 is dead as a doornail.
Any chance that Intel...
I've been running the 8INXP now for 3 weeks and had the problem with the 9700pro. What worked for me was raising the AGP/PCI lock as you've done (just one increment) and turning off Fast Writes in the ATI Control Panel.
Running rock stable now at 165 FSB -- Corsair XMS3200C2 @ 2-2-2-5.
Still...
Got the TB Santa Cruz in PCI Slot #3 with no issues on my 8INXP. Not running in Top Performance mode -- seemed to be some stability problems at 160FSB with Top Performance activated.
Have not tried EasyTune.
Good luck with 8INXP PJ! I've been running mine for about a week now with my 2.8ghz P4. I'm a novice at the P4 OC game -- a recent convert from the AMD camp. I'm slowly ramping her up -- measuring stability, which is more important to me than the raw speed.
Right now at 155FSB (3.23ghz) --...
Kowan:
I really wanted to pull out all the stops and go with the 3.06 w/HT. But at the show I went to, the best price anyone would give me on the chip was $750. I saw it at Newegg.com for around $650 the day before. If someone at this show would have matched that price, I swear I was crazy...
Mech:
Did a quick compression test for you with a 'warez' copy of UT that I had laying around and I'm happy for you that your score is still safe. Took me 2.5 minutes. I'm still keeping this 8INXP board, however. :D
I'll give it another go as I ramp up the overclock in the days ahead.
Hey Kowan!
I was one of the first people through the gate and the dealer who had it only had 1 board. I knew I had to sh*t or get off the pot cause it would be gone my next time around. I grabbed it and I saw no other GB boards at the show. Basically, right place at the right time for me.
I...
Hey Elvis!
I just picked up this board at a computer show here in NJ yesterday -- $279 (ouch!!) -- and started the setup last night. Had a lot of the same RAID problems as you did, so I scratched it and went with the regular IDE channels. Of course I have never set up a RAID array before so I...
TCWO.com had both the 8RDA+ and the 8RDA in stock this morning @$108 for the + and $99 for the stripped one. They were offering a free shipping promotion earlier but I'm not sure if that's still in effect.
Thanks for the heads-up. Will make it a point to stop by BestBuy.
No, it's not his best but it ain't bad. Best in my book is still The Wild, The Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle. Guess I'm showing my age now........;)
Thanks for the input -- for the most part it reinforces my inclination to ride the Nforce2 wave that seems to be cresting.
Lots of good suggestions -- the 2400+ was/is a contender for the price performance value but oc'ing is not my primary aim here and I'd just as soon spend the extra C-note...
It's not my intention to re-re-re-kindle an AMD/Intel flame war but just an honest question on my part. Which processor gives me more bang for the buck -- AMD XP 2600+ or the P4 2.66? They're priced the same so I guess what I'm saying is which one gives me more 'bang?'
New Christmas system...
Price must be dropping on these as I found one at a computer show here in NJ for $279. Most dealers had them for under $300 at the show. Figured it was a good deal because I see that Newegg has it for $345.
Been working on putting together a new rig since September, accumulating the components. Here's what I have:
Antec 1080AMG case w/430 watt PSU
2 modules of Corsair 512k XMS3200 C2 (1024 total)
2 WD 80gig S.E. HD's
40x Lite On CDRW
Geforce TI4600
The final decision is a tough one. What...
I've got my eye on those two boards and, in addition, the Abit BE-7. Many positive posts on all those boards. The Gigabyte one may have problems with 2 sticks of memory according to some of the reviews. Another good option seems to be the Albatron PEV-Pro, if you want to go barebones.
Don't...
I've just installed XP Professional on an older system:
Tyan Trinity 400 (S1854)
Celeron 700
256 PC133
Nvidia Geforce2
Standard Keyboard (PS2)
MS Intellimouse Explorer (USB)
Runs fine enough for the wife except for one nagging problem. If I restart the system, the keyboard disappears when XP...
Grabbed 2 of these drives from the Circuit City in Freehold, NJ -- no problems at all with the 110% PM as per your instructions. Others are correct though in saying that a lot depends on the store managers at CC. The Brick NJ manager would only PM up to CompUSA's in store price. Would advise...
Exactly what do you mean by blocking off the side fan mount? Does that side fan really help cool off those hot G4 cards? I know you can probably fry an egg on my Visiontek Ti-4600.
I'm upgrading my system from a GeForce 2 to a Geforce TI 4600. Running WinXP with the latest Detonators. Will I need to remove the driver when I swap the cards? ANy hints for a less than problematic installation?
Iwill 266

Thanks.

Checked the registry and that line with those values were already in place. The mystery continues....I'm considering uninstalling NTI CD Maker Pro and reinstalling without the update but somehow I don't think that will clean up the 'mess' it left me with in the first place.
>>get the x-setup on tweakfiles.com, and it's have a n option for that<<
Tried that -- X-Setup shows that Autoplay is active even though it is not. Thanks anyway.
Both IDE Cd drives (Teac and Plextor)lost their ability to autoplay CD's and I can't seem to restore it. Happened just after I installed the upgrade to NTI CD-Maker Pro.
The MS Knowledge Base tells you how to disable autoplay in Windows 2000 but after looking at Audio CD in file types...
I'm setting up dual boot with these OS'es and was wondering if I can share particular applications to conserve some hard disk space. Apps like Office 2000, Norton Systemworks, Photoshop. Can I install them in each OS to the same hard drive (and folder)? Will they run (without problems) that...
Norton 2001 WinDoctor detected this error on my system:
..."C:\WINNT\System32\MAPISRVR.EXE" cannot access a necessary file, "gapi32.dll..."
and told me that the error was not repairable -- at least by their 'smartfix' solutions. Both files are on my system but apparently...
Don't do much shopping at Staples but I've found something that looks like a good deal if the applied coupon and rebates work.
Question is: can you use both a coupon and rebate on the same item? Their fine print says you cannot combine offers and I don't want to waste my time doing so if...
Any links to WinME sites? Forums dedicated to the OS, driver sites, info, etc.?
I've seen the MS site and not much info to be found there yet. I suppose as we get closer and closer to the release date we'll see more support sites.
From what I've read there doesn't seem to be too much of a difference between 2x and 4x, but I'm wondering why I can't seem to get my CLAP2 to run in 4X mode.
I've got the ASUS P3V4X and the bios is set for 4X but Sisoft Sandra reports me running at 2X.
Any ideas here?
Can any users of the new OS tell me if there are any problems using Win98 utilities on Win ME? Specifically, software like Norton or SiSoft -- any compatibility issues?
I thought I saw a thread here of 'what does and what doesn't work' but I can't seem to find it.
I know I've seen this discussed here but can't find the thread.
How do you eliminate the bootloader screen when Win2k starts up? I've taken the plunge and stopped my dual booting of Win2000 and 98 and just load Win2k now.
I found the boot.ini file, where the info is located. Can I just...
Been dual booting Win2K and 98 for some time now and want to make the move to 2000 with a fresh install -- eliminate 98 altogether. Advantages to NTFS over FAT?
If I go with NTFS will I be able to read the FAT32 partitions (which I'd have temporarily to backup drivers and essential...
Thanks Zir! You were right on the money. I needed to delete and reinstall the printer in Win2k and the Win98 machine was then able to find it. Thanks again.
Printer works fine on the Win2k workstation. In fact, I'm set up for dual boot on the workstation and can access the printer from both computers if both computers are running Win98 -- it's just when I boot Win2k, then the Win98 box can't find the printer.
Primary machine running Win2k Pro -- networked my kid's computer running Win98SE through Linksys Router and cable modem.
File sharing, internet connection all working fine but I can't get the Win98 box to find the HP USB printer (which is connected to the Win2k machine).
When I try to set up...
