I would advise against an LCD. If your vision is not good, then you most likely use a lower resolution like 1024x768 or 800x600. A 17" LCD will not usually look very good at those resolutions (text can be blurry etc.). As far as a good CRT goes, I'm just not familiar with the current lineup to...
Granted, it's wrong to mock others, but people have the right to mock stupid people who stand up for what they believe in.:D
If Jesus were giving a sermon then slipped and fell, exposing himself, would you sue him or brush it off as an accident?
It does work great for a car, but most of the pc noise is escaping out of vent holes (unlike road noise that vibrates through the metal underbody). To prevent this, the sound needs to be absorbed before it can leave the case. The best way to go is a layer of Dynamat and then a layer of sound...
Dynamat won't do much at all. It is a vibration dampener not a sound absorbtion material. For the same price you can get some proper stuff from quietpc.com. I just ordered in the Power Snooze kit myself. It even comes with 2 dynamat type sheets for the side panels. The acoustipack is even...
Thanks for the help.
They are listed as the contact at the top of the page and as the administrative contact. I'm list as the registrant, technical, and billing contact. I still have not heard back from them, but I sent them off another email today.
I went with deafening-urge.net because they...
Please take a closer look at the diagram. The sine wave is already there. The dimmer just cuts the width of each positive and negative wave. This brings down the average voltage which in turn dims the lamp.
The buzzing can come from the bulb or the dimmer. If it's the dimmer then get a better...
Actually, the dimmer is not pulsating the electricity on and off. The electricity is already doing that at a rate of 60 Hz. The dimmer is simply cutting off the width of each pulse.
I agree with replacing the bulbs. They are most likely the culprit.
I was going to register a domain name with deafening-urge.net, but my coupon code would not work so I quit filling out the forms. The next day I get an emailed bill from them for the cost of the domain name registration and website package. They had already registered my domain name without me...
No need for a calculation here. It's a short, plain and simple.
As far as soldering the resistor on....
Use a fine point soldering tip. Try putting a small blob of solder on each connection point. Now hold the resistor in place (with needlenose) and using no extra solder melt each blob. This...
No need for a voltage regulator here.
If the current is less than 20mA just slap a normal LED in series and you'll get your 1.7V drop to 3.3V.
Or you could use 2 silicon diodes for 3.7 volts, or 2 silicon and 1 germanium for 3.4 volts.
It looks as though pin 6 is alreadt 3.43 volts though, so...
With my P4 3.0 and the 7000A-ALCU at the lowest speed (with included fanmate) my idle temps are about 38C. It is very quiet. I'm very impressed with the Zalman HS and it looks cooler than the Thermalright ones too. (I had an SLK-800 on my last system).
I just got my Intel Retail Edge kit (3.0 p4 and mobo) and I got the Zalman 7000A-AlCu. I'm looking at building a silent computer. I just need to know if the 80GB SATA Maxtor drive is quiet. I know Seagates are quieter, but they also seem to have less performance. BTW, the HD will be suspended by...
Almost all the disks I've burned on my LG CD burner are unreadable after a few months. I've tried different media and it still fails. I've tried my media on a friends burner and it seems fine months down the road. Anyone ever heard of the drive being the problem? It's under an extended...
I never thread crap, but I just can't resist.
Here is a quote from another thread...
And you think buying a prebuilt system is a waste of money? What about people that are too incompetent to install a heatsink? I think you need to call 1-800-WWW-DELL.
That is all...
Startup time is the time it takes for the camera to be ready to take a shot from the time you turn it on. You would hate to miss those special moments waiting for your camera to start up.
Hmmmm, is someone doing the Intel Retail Edge program? If you haven't had your employment confirmed and ordered yet I suggest you hurry. I signed up a month ago, had the employment verification done 2 1/2 weeks ago and it's been on backorder since.
10 AWG wire is required for a 30 amp circuit. Please note that this is Canadian Electrical Code (table 2), but I doubt there is any difference in American standards.
Holy crap that's bad advice. For proper electrical safety 15amp circuits are really only suppossed to carry 12amps (an 80% of max is standard for any branch circuit). Never replace a breaker with a higher one unless you increase the wire size as well.
There are electrical standards for a...
Even the 9800np with Infineon 3.0 ram will almost reach the speed of a 9800pro by just overclocking (and some will take the flash, especially with extra cooling). The Infineon 3.0 chips are rated for 333Mhz. I just got one of these myself. The main thing to watch out for is that you want the red...
If you want to see an example of a good cooling design take a look at the new G5 tower. It's pretty quiet for the amount of air that is flowing through it.
As far as 120mm fans go... the Antec Sonata is one of the quietest cases out there and it utilizes 120mm fans.
I use my system for general stuff and gaming. I'm looking at two options to go with the 3.0 P4 I've ordered.
1. Use my existing 7200 rpm 2mb HD and get a 9800np
2. Get a SATA 10K 8mb WD and a 9600pro
I upgrade video cards about every 1.5 years, so would I be happy with the 9600pro for that long...
I'm just so happy I had to tell somebody.:) I did the Intel retail edge program so I'm getting the whole bundle for $200.
It's not much of an improvement in speed over what I have now, but at this price I just couldn't resist. Anyone else in the retail area go for this deal too?
So I got a copy of Office 2003 Pro full version and it didn't cost me a penny. The thing isn't even released yet. I got it for free because I attended a training session put on by one of the Canadian marketing reps from Microsoft.
There is a cool new feature where you can set documents to delete...
I play about an hour per night. I think I'm getting tired of buggy software too. It seems like you spend more time getting some games to work than actually playing them. I have a couple friends who have gamecube's and the games seem to run pretty flawlessly.
Thing is I work in a large computer...
