Question about partitioning

yup, partition magic is a very cool program that can do what you need.. but as Zepper said, make a backup of your important files just in case.. there shouldn't be any problems though..

also, another important factor is the screen.. there are generally 3 different type of screens available.. xga, sxga, uxga.. there's also widescreen avaiable but it depends on the model that you are looking at.. the uxga is definately the best looking screen and has the highest resolution...

who here has the most outdated video card?

i have the ati '98 xpert pro 8mb card that i still run in my older computer.. my dad uses it quite often for business work... but his programs don't require a powerful computer at all, so it works out quite well.

logitech z-640s

there is quite a bit of bass in them... adequete for a descent sized room.. if you turn the bass up really high, it is quite powerful ;)

Care and feeding of a LCD?

i get mine to turn off at a certain time.. usually after 3 min since i'm using a laptop... i haven't had any problems at all so far.

Wireless woes - please help me

log into your router using the standard rj45 connection... check all your wireless settings.. for now, disable the use of wep keys and enable ssid broadcasting... one more thing, make sure that your router and your wireless cards are on the same channel... after you do this, you shouldn't run...

HD transfer questions

if you are just planniing on moving data, then the easiest way would be to plug your secondary drive into your computer as the slave drive... make sure that your jumpers are setup correctly for both hard drives.. this way, when you go to windows explorer, you'll see both drives there.. then...

Dual Boot Problem Windows XP and 98

that sounds odd... it looks like you are doing everything correctly.. in the installation of the 2 different os's, did you select the proper drive to install the os on?? perhaps you might have selected the wrong one.. also, you might want to use fdisk to recreate your partitions, then try...

Cable Modem Question

yes you can do that.. i'm doing that as well.. i'm actually splitting it in 3.. i'm using 2 tv's and one to the cable modem.. i'm just using a generic splitter and i'm getting good performance.. i had no noticable performance issues when i split the connection.

Need inexpesnive 5.1 Speakers, Help!

the best speakers for a budget 5.1 sound system would probably be the logitech z640's.. but they are $65 at newegg.. a bit over your price range.. well worth it though.. 5.1 sound is only important if you play a lot of games (that support 5.1) or dvd's.. other than that, the center speaker...

MX500 light stays on?

could it be something with your BIOS settings?? i'm using this mouse as well and i don't have any of the problems that you have mentioned.. you might also want to install the latest drivers to see if it helps.. if it doesn't and you prefer to not have any drivers, then just uninstall it...

Best Mouse for Gaming?

i'm using the mx500 and i don't notice any wrong movements when i life the mouse and move it over... i would suggest that you get either the mx500 or mx700 if you are a heavy gamer.. they have a lot of customizable buttons that you can bind to different stuff in games.. if price is an issue...

Can't boot from CD? Need help installing XP Full version please.

either use boot disks or do this: go into your BIOS > change bootup sequence to CDROM as the first device in the list save settings and put in xp cd... do a restart... it should bootup from your cdrom now..

Considering purchasing the logitech z-680 speakers, thoughts?

if you are going for high end speakers, i would suggest that you also take a serious look at the kplisch 5.1 ones... they are pretty much the top of the line in computer speakers at the moment.. i have heard from other users that they don't have the hissing problem anymore... so i guess maybe...

Where is the CD key for return to castlewolfenstien located ?

there isn't much that you can do... it's probably protected within the registry... i really doubt that you can find it... but, if you have the reciept for proof of purchase, you could always send it back to the company and they will give you a new cdkey.

burning cd's bigger than 700MB - somebody MUST know....

wow, since when was bigger capacity cd's released??? just a question, what brand are those cds?? if they are released and in stores, then the best thing to do is find a driver that will enable you to burn that much data onto a cd.. if therre is one, it should be on your manufacturer's official...

How often do you format?

i usually always end up doing it about once every 6 months... something seems to come up where i need to format to get everything back to its original state... but on my old computer (133mhz) i haven't formatted it in about a year... i just use it for basic usage, so nothing really gets put...

if you own a logitech elite keyboard please look inside for question

i have the logitech access keyboard and i hate it too... that's the only disadvantage to this keyboard.. i hate the fact that i always have to toggle it on and off.. especially when playing some mp3's and using some applications.. they require the F keys and sometimes you wanna switch songs.. so...

What do I have to download to be able to read AVI files on media player

yup, most likely you need the divx codecs.. another good codec to have is the nimo codecs.. these can also be found for free.. just do a search in any search engine for "nimo codecs" and you'll come up with a lot of results.

Surround sound on Sound Blaster live 5.1 (w/ Logitech 560s)

in control panel > sounds and audio devices > advanced button > change setup to 4.1 sound... also, in your creative drivers, make sure that the setup is set to 4.1 sound.. then, in whatever program that you are using to watch your dvd, make sure that it is also setup to 4.1 sound.. should be...

Quick: Logitech 5.1 speakers on a SB Live! Value?

yes they will work.. you just don't plug in the yellow (center) connector.. it'll still work perfectly, except that you won't get sound out of the center speaker.

New Computer won't turn on at all

try to take out all computer components except for the essentials and run it again... one thing to try out as well is if the power supply is working fine.. try to plug it in to some fans and see if it spins the internal fans in the antec.

Best sub-$20 keyboard?

it's hard to say which one is the best since everybody has a different preference.. but i would say that the logitech and microsoft ones seem to be the best.. best thing to do is go to a local computer store and try them out.. each one has a different feel to the setup and the way the keys...

you shouldn't have any problems running your hard drives 24/7 as the users said above ;) one thing though, it's good to let windows power down your hard drive automatically by going to control panel > power options... get it to turn off every 30min when not in use.. it'll help prolong the life...

CAT 3.4 - Should I install these?

i have the 8500DV and installed these new drivers last week.. everything worked fine except for the TV feature.. it would totally bog down my system when i have the Tv running.. when i turn it off, it is back to normal again... i couldn't find a way to fix it so i just went back to the last...

i would definently say to get a bigger hard drive.. i don't know about you, but i find that 40gb is just too little nowadays... you can find the maxtor 80gb w/ 8mb cache for $149 at costco... really good deal on it right now... btw shady, this user isn't in the US, so he can't get the good...

definently get the seagate harddrives.. they are very quiet however they aren't as good in performance compared to western digital ones which are louder... you should stick with the zalman cooler, i have the 3100+ and i have no problems with it... completely silent... for you psu, i have...

What is benefit of having a dual-monitor setup?

it's also very handy if you do 2d/3d work... especially in photoshop.. you can have all the palettes opened on the second monitor, and just be looking at the pic on the main monitor.. it saves from always moving the palettes to fit your needs.
