Who is having problems with their ati card? (just a show of hands)

Hmm... Not happy with the way this thread is going! I had a Radeon 8500 earlier and i had LOTS of problems. My biggest problem though, was the extremely poor support from ATI... I'm now on my way to buy a new card and have thought about ATI since i've heard that both the drivers and the support...

I hate nvidia/should buy ATI/Microsoft games are buggy

I didn't get any textures at first when i tested the demo. Turned out i needed to have "fog table emolution" ON. With it turned off, no textures. Don't know if this is your problem, but it might be worth a try. (Display properties, direct3D settings). Thomas.

But is this measured with an open case or not? It says "the noise of fan only has 40db" on Gainwards site. 40dB is ok imo, i've got a fairly thick case in my system and would probably not be bothered by this card. But maybe they measured the decibel with the case on (and maybe it was a very...

Bad Radeon Scores. 3Dmark2k1, 3Dmark2k3, UT2k3 results inside. HELP!

Haven't seen any other solutions yet, but i'll keep an eye open. The idea to have air-intake /exhaust on the back of the card, is great. Atleast in theory... Let's hope a more silent version will come. And new drivers... Somehow it feels like the FX should perform better, judging by the...

70DB!!?? :Q That sounds like a number for a carengine or something... I agree, it doesn't matter how good it is. 70DB is simply to much... I did read that Nvidia was working on a way to reduce the noicelevel for the release, but it sounds like they need a different fan-system all together...

That's a totally different thing! My not wanting to buy ATI has nothing to do with the fact that my 8500 wasn't working properly... It's all about the poor support and lousy treatment i recieved from them! I'm not resentful. If i knew that the support was much better, i'd go buy it today!! But...

Well, if it were only for the actual problems with the 8500 i wouldn't hesitate. The 9700 is a whole different card, and judging it by how the 8500 performed is stupid. But, my main problem is the lack of support! If i were to buy a 9700 and it didn't work ok i'd be relying on ATI support again...

I've listened to that mp3 with the FX spinning up earlier, it sound horrible but since you don't have anything to compare it with (i.e background sound of someone talking or something) it's very hard to know the actual noicelevel... I'll have to try it out in the store first. ATI and me? Well...

Hmm, one thing i've missed when reading the reviews of the FX5800, that i just found out, is the noice! It seems like the fan is quite noisy, best would probably be to hear it in action and then take stand... But i don't like noisy computers, i often use it late at nights when others in the...

Ok, thanks... I can get the TI4600 for about $320...the FX5800 is $420 and the FX5800Ultra is $570 The Ultra is too much imo, but the $100 difference between the TI4600 and FX5800 is... within reach... Thomas.

I'm looking to buy a new videocard, the FX5800Ultra is a bit to expensive so i'm choosing between the FX5800 and a TI4600 (or TI4800). I haven't found any comparison between the FX5800 and the TI4600 so i have no idea if it's worth the extra $100 for the FX5800? Is there someone who could shed...
