System Crashes in Battlefield 2 and America's Army

The thing that fixed it for me was lowering my displays refresh rate to 60Hz. Now it works like a champ. Because it's a CRT, I just have to put up with the black border since I have my res and everything set up for my desktop...

I know "large sum of money" can be subjective, so I would suggest you set your budget first - keeping in mind things like mounts, stands, cables, etc. Then hit avsforum.com and read up. Then after that, go look at some panels. Follow your eyes. Everyone will tell you this is better than that...

Is there a noticable difference in BF2 with 2 gigs of ram vs 1 gig of ram?

Trust me - 2GB will help alot with texture loads. I didn't even suggest 2GB in HL2 or D3, but this game will eat it up...

what do i need to upgrade?

You should be cool, but BF2 is very heavy on CPU and RAM for loading maps and AI controled physics. If I had to suggest an upgrade for you, I'd say get yourself 2x1GB of RAM and OC that 3200+ if needed. Your 6800GT will do just fine.

If you can find a deal within your price range on a 9800, 9600, 59xx or 6600GT you should be OK. However, on a game like BF2, don't skimp on CPU or RAM if at all possible.

Should I get a MIDI card or just a cheap sound card with a MIDI/Game port?

My OB midi and SB card midi was crappy so I bout a $40 MAudio USB Quadro on sale at Micro Center and it works like a champ on my ddrum4 kit... Hope that helps!

I forgot to post up here, but for anyone interested, I was able to get to 3.32Ghz stable on this 2.66 using a version of ClockGen made for 915 chipset. In the BIOS, I locked down the RAM ratio to 333 (5:4) and the PCI to 33Mhz, left default 133 FSB, bumped up the vcore to 1.45v and the NB and...

Yeah, you're right I'm sure. This was PCIe stepping stone system at best - and an experiment that didn't work at worst. It sure fit the budget at the moment and it games fairly well, which was all I was really interested in anyway. So I'll proly just FS/FT it next month and go with an NF4 solution.
