Yes I've tried the new ROM. It's quite nice. The new Opera is excellent and the new Document tab is nice too. But I personally still like OpenZaurus 3.2 better because it looks so much better and I like it's package install system. Oh and OZ also syncs better for me.
I'm not quite sure why you're having so many problems. For me, installing Konqueror involved starting Qtopia desktop, right clicking konqueror-snapshot-full from the "Software" tab then hitting install. It downloaded and installed and I was set to go. This was under OZ 3.2 by the way.
Well to move it I know you can just hold-click the document name in the document tab and select the new location.
To copy though, I guess you'd either have to: Upload the file again through Qtopia desktop. Or the 'expert' way ;) to do this would be to fire up the Konsole program and type cp...
OZ is definitely prettier/more customizable. But yes, using the Sharp ROM to get a feel of how the system works is definitely recommended, especially if you don't have a Linux background. Personally, I found OZ to be a better version of the Sharp ROM in every way except for maybe the sync (I had...
Oops. Fixed now.
Edit: OK nevermind. I'd thought it was my fault but this forum software is too retarded and adds a http:// before the ftp url. I've now made it a non clickable url to get around this bug.
Are you in Windows or Linux? If it's Windows then the file is ftp://ftp.trolltech.com/qtopia/source/qtopiadesktop-1.6.0.exe--standard executable installer. Very easy. It has a lot of good things and is worth the upgrade. Just try it. ;)
To check if Qtopia desktop can communicate with the Zaurus, check the system tray (bottom right corner of the screen). If you see a green arrow, then Qtopia will be able to access the Zaurus. If you see a red, broken-pipe, then there are problems that need to be sorted out. If you're having sync...
After you add the docs.zaurus.com feed as I mentioned above and the OpenZaurus feed (instructions for that are on the Openzaurus website, you'll see a package called "konqueror-snapshot" or "konqueror-snapshot-full" show up in the list of packages. You can right click and select install to...
vette98--Sorry but on the very first page of this thread, I wrote a detailed description (step by step) of how to use software feeds. That first page also has my explanation of how to rip the Opera and Hancom office programs. You don't expect me to retype it all on every page do you? ;)
That question has been asked and answered already in this thread. Basically, you can rip opera from the Sharp ROM and install it into OZ or you can install Konqueror from the OZ software feed.
Hey, it's not stealing if I wish to share. :)
Drop me a message here when it's launched or if I can help out in any way. I know PHP, mySQL, (X)HTML, CSS and such handy acronyms/languages. :)
You can IM me at sanv -at- hotmail -dot- com (MSN) or 22170114 (ICQ).
figgypower--The website idea sounds good. I actually considered making one also but then ran into time constraints. I'd still love to help out though from time to time. :)
About the rotation thing: OZ 3.2 has it built in (Hit the "Start"/"Opie key" in the bottom left and hit rotate) and it...
I haven't tried Intellisync as Qtopia Desktop works well for me.
As figgypower said, you have to rip Opera and Hancom office from the Sharp ROM to get them. It basically involves downloading "Opera Creator" and "Hancom creator" from the Zaurus Software index I linked above then executing the...
I had just wrote the post for creegah and hit post when I saw your new post pop up robisc. Some fast posters here. ;)
You can install software from "feeds" in two ways. You can either install it directly from your Z by adding the feed to the package manager (but you have to make sure it has...
You don't have to run it from console creegah. You just need to install the (3) libSDL packages. I believe they're called, libSDL, libSDL-mixer, and libSDL-net.
I mentioned this above but I'm loving OZ 3.2. It looks better, runs better, has all kinds of features that the Sharp ROM doesn't. I'd recommend that you try it. :)
I've found Plucker to be a good alternative to Avantgo (offline browser).
There's a dictionary (more than one actually--there is one offline version and an 'edict' that retrieves the definititions over the net) available on the docs.zaurus.com software feed.
I've found IQnotes to be an...
I'm running it right now and it's by far the best release. I had been using 3.0 till this came out. It looks a lot better, is more stable and looks much more 'polished'.
And the package feed is even better than ever too. I'd definitely recommend that everyone try this.
Opie is a forked version of the Qtopia code and it's made to be fully compatible with Qtopia. The reason why Opie exists is pretty much because Qtopia isn't GPL licensed (it's under the QT license or something which isn't always 100% free).
I don't use W2k so I can't help you there figgypower...
According to it's site: The formats which it does understand are:
* "Doc" format - also known as the original Aportis or AportisDoc format.
* Weasel or ztxt format.
* Plucker format.
* gzipped text.
* ppms text.
* Plain text with special handling of PML or HTML marked-up...
Just a note: the terminal program and filemanager are actually on the installation CD that comes with the Zaurus itself. Look under the "Applications" directory in the CDROM to find the ipks, install instructions and a PDF file on how to use them.
Rufio--there is also Zynergy which is basically...
Well let me start off by posting some links I posted earlier then: :)
Myzaurus.com is the official user site. It has a couple tips and tricks, downloads and such.
Zaurus dev forum is a more developer oriented forum (but non-developers seem to hang around and get support there too.
And of...
You must be special then. Because mine came without any 'popcorn'. It was just the Sharp box sitting inside a larger brown box. I guess they heard the complaints from people who had already recieved it and made adjustments.
And yeah, OZ is nice. :)
Yes, I liked openZaurus too but I too couldn't sync with XP after I reflashed it. I'm now using the Zynergy ROM which is basically the Sharp one with some bulk removed (Java for example) and a couple minor touchups. And it syncs. :)
figgy--The backup is only used to hold your data safe when the main battery dies. And yes, it does take around 24 hours to charge. I personally just plugged it in as soon as I got it into the AC power and started playing with it (and it continued charging). Just leave it overnight in the cradle...
