Why are (many) FPS Fans bored to tears by RTS/RPG Games?

Have you tried Darwinia? It's kindof an RTS, but not really. In fact it's really very hard to describe - just try the demo. It's got a retro theme, but with modern graphics. I can't think of many other games to compare it to without doing it a disservice. It's from indie software house...

Fixed it! I'd got the codepages wrong. In the kernel config, under the Native Language Support I'd only compiled the european codepage, but in the vfat section I had the american one as the default. Adding the option codepage=850 when mounting meant that it worked perfectly. I'm now...

Firefox problem

The quick and dirty method is to uninstall firefox, delete its directory, and your firefox profile. Then re-install from scratch. If you don't want to loose your profile like this, then there's another way, I just need to check on which files you'll need to get rid of.

Knoppix problem

We had similar problems on a rackmount PC - the soultion as just to boot the 2.6 kernel. I think you need to type knoppix26, but if you can at least see the intital screen it should show you there.

Try typing lspci into a terminal, that should give you information on all the things attached to your PCI bus, one of which will be your wireless card. If you can work out which one it is, post the output here and someone will be able to help.

How to connect WRT54G to another 802.11B network

Have you tried changing the WRT54G from "Gateway" to "Router" mode? It's in one of the config pages, I can't remember which one. It worked for me when I was using ICS instead of plugging the modem in directly. You might need to turn off DHCP as well if you haven't already. I can't check 'cos...

On linux, I'd use sort and uniq to tell me which lines were duplicated, and then use sed or something to trim out those lines. Post again if this is helpful but you need more explanation.

UT2k4 runs out of the box on linux. You just install it off the DVD/CDs like you would under windows. I made a thread about games on linux in the OS forum that got some good replies, if you want to search for it.

If your two original vertices are a and b, then the vector of the line running between them is a+n(b- a). IF your third vertex is c then the distance from c to a point on the line is the length of a+n(b- a) - c. IF you minimise this formula wrt n, then you'll get the minimum distance.
