Is there anyway to get around the 1-year subscription to NAV definitions?

It isn't NAV that will stop working, it is the virus definitions that will not be renewed. Live Update will continue to provide you with program updates for NAV, but unless you buy a new subscription you won't be protected against viruses that were discovered AFTER your subscription lapsed...

Almost forgot... Live Update is not for any one specific product of theirs, and will update whatever you have installed. -C

NAV 2002 does have the automatic live update, you just have to make sure you have the settings set so it is enabled. You don't have to configure liveupdate to run at startup, but you do have to have NAV start at startup (you don't have to run a scan at that time). It will automatically grab...

Computer got infected with nasty trojan virus

You just might have a new variant of the virus. If you still have a copy of the virus on your backup, you might try using the feature of Norton AntiVirus to submit the file for analysis - they should get back to you with a fix for it if it isn't already covered in the current virus definitions...

Regarding DSL, the max speed that you are given is mostly decided by the quality and length of the phone line you have. If you have a regular connection they will give you 768, and if they have trouble making that work because of line condition or radio frequency interference or bridge taps...
