There is reportedly a 30+% performance gain with drives with 8mb cache over 2mb cache. You'll definitely want one with 8mb cache if you will be using the drive alone. This drive being only 2mb cache is plenty for storage space since you won't access it so often as, say, an OS partition.

That's just the way hard drives are. Formatting the hard drive will take a couple GBs away. My 160gb hard drive only shows 152gb so you get the idea. Thanks for the info though. I think it's too different from my offer which was a one day sale at Fry's but maybe it'll help.
