The original owner ran it in a dual chip motherboard. Many Athlon XP mobiles can run in dual cpu mode. He modded the chip so that it would be recognized as a Athlon MP on that board, and so that the start up (default) voltage would be 1.6v (according to him). He also tells me it worked...

Thanks for the replies. The fomer owner of this CPU said that it ran perfectly on his Abit NF7 at 2.5GHz+ at 1.7x volts. I am wondering if my BIOS doesn't like that fact that it shows up as MP (multiprocessor) at least according to CPU-Z. I could try it out in my brother's Abit AN7 but...

Transfering Laptop Data

Yes there is an adapter that will allow you to hook up the laptop hard drive to a desktop. I've done it before (it's been a while). In fact I still have the adapter, if can't find one I'll sell you mine for $10 via Paypal.

Make sure your system is plugged in DIRECTLY to the wall (no pwer strips) into a known good socket. If you've already tried the other posts and no go, then disconnect every component inside your system (i.e. soundcard, modem, hard drives, CDROM, floppy, etc.) EXCEPT leave, CPU and fan, RAM...

Check the Abit fourm if you haen't already to make sure this is not a known issue. How are your temps? Are you overclocking? If yes, go to stock specs. If no... A dirty reinstall if you can't find the issue. (the second time XP install says "repair", not the first). THis may or may not fix...

I have dealt with one of these card before , doing the same thing you are doing. I never could get it to work in the machine w/ onboard video, but it would work in other machines. From what I found out, it is possible that your power supply doesn't meet the requirements for the PCI add-on...

Win XP Home - CDRW not working

FYI: I just got my rev2 board about 2 weeks ago. It came with 1003 bios. I just used the drivers from the cd that came with it and everything has been flawless so far. I havent used a USB2.0 device though, just a regular USB connection

XRdirthead, Did you check you temp in the bios or with AsusProbe (assuming all your boards are Asus)? AsusProbe has that nifty utility that will record your temps/voltages/fan speeds so you can put a load on system and go back and see how it reacts.

1700 T-Bred Overclocking question

Princeman, If your memory is PC2100 it probably wont run at 166 so you may need to choose the memory settings to run at say, 80% of FSB. PC2100 = 133MHz. You might also have to bring up your cas and ras timings or put them on optimal. Or for that matter you can see what the resulting memory...
