    I want a 20"+ LCD, HELP!

The wintel engineering group near me - I'm with distributed storage myself - recently evaluated a number of LCD panels. The nearly all agree that the Dell is the best value and overall best monitor at that size amongst the models you listed. The Samsung is also an excellent choice.

    dual 2.8 xeons or 3.4 p4?

XP is fine - Windows 2000 is an issue. Windows 2000 Server is ok with dual HT xeons, but Windows 2000 Professional see it a four separate 'physical' processors. XP recognizes HT as 'virtual' processors from a licensing perspective.

What is your favorite LCD Monitor?

Dell 2001FP - My company recently did an eval of many LCD monitors as a new corporate standard - more than two dozen were evaluated - Dell was the hands down winner. Others compared included Samsung, NEC, Sun, HP, IBM , Iyama, Eizo, Philips, Sony, Apple, etc. Global delivery and support were a...

How many mobos out there support dual X16 PCI-Express?

No dual 16x support - The chipsets support 24x total - Dual 16x is actually one 16x and one 8x slot. The 8x is still twice as fast as AGP, but a bit deceiving.

thinking of overclocking. is it worth it?

Worth it? well if you are only going for 5-10%, then probably not. If you are getting better performance for less money - of course it is. Paying for a 2.8C and getting a 3.6 - Definitely. Using that saved money for a better video card and other components - it's like free money.

Best Abit board for P4 right now

Under 250MHz FSB - AI7 Over 250MHz FSB - IC7-G or Max3 So it depends on your CPU.

3.0c / 2.8c know its been asked before

The 2.8C M0 are SL6Z5 product code - I have mine at 266MHz-3.725GHz. I have heard of several of the 30 cap 3.0's hitting 250MHz FSB on air.

OCZ Enhanced Bandwidth PC3500 OC woes

The CAS 2 at 200 will beat out the CAS 3 at 250 in most real world benchmarks, unless you can get some CAS 2.5 at 250 which is really good to get. If you are thinking of swapping, I would recommend the Corsair XL 2-2-2-5 memory and run 5:4.
  12. S

Grumpy and Jealous!!! Everyone else o/c's better than me!!

I expect that you are running with a 5:4 mem divider. If not, I would start there. Also provide you CPU voltage setting and what you are reading from BIOS on it. Can you provide info on your rails from your PSU - esp. 12V. What stepping is your CPU - 5 digit code. I have an SL6Z5 'M0' stepping...

What are the "bang for the buck" high powered Athlon and P4 board/processor combos right now?

For the $300 range, since you already have the memory: Intel: P4 2.8E, Abit AI7 and a good cooler - 250MHz FSB easy - 3.5GHz. AMD: AMD 64+ 3000 and a good board will be a bit more than 300 but I wouldn't recommend anything less. Some like the mobile barton 2400+ which overclocks well, but I...

    Problems overclocking after adding ram

Try running your tests with just the new memory - most systems do not overclock as well with four modules as they do with two modules - extended bus lengths and timing increases to support the second stick on each channel. Generally, you will get better overclocks with two sticks instead of...

What yea think of my OC (please comment)

Spark 7 isn't all that much better then the stock HSF combo - A high end cooler might get you up to the 250MHz range, but that is dependant on the particular stepping - I have an M0 that went to 250 on air and runs at 266 on H20. 230 is still nothing to sneeze at with that setup.

    Question about Corsair TWINX1024-4000 DDR500

Yep. SOL for the memory - I would suggest trying to swap for 3200XL memory which would give you much tighter timings at 200MHz FSB. I have that mem and it works great at 250+, I am running 266MHz right now with 2.5 timings, but you won't get CAS 2 out of it even at 200MHz.

Cold boot problems at 270FSB on Abit IS7-G with P4 2.4C

I have a roughly similar rig - had a similar issue while tweaking my rig - turned out to be a memory timing issue - RAM needed to be warmed up at certain timings and voltages. I don't think it is the 5:4 but check your memory timings if they are manually set. I have Corsair PC4000 running 1:1 at...

    Wheres the P4E's overclocking?

    I have a 2.8C M0 stepping and the IC7-G - 1.6V at 266MHz FSB = 3.725GHz. H20 cooling though ;)

    P4 2.8c D1 stepping with 30 caps?

Upped voltage last night to 1.6 and started PRIME95 at 266MHz FSB- still running fine this morning, but my computer room is VERY warm. 3.725GHz out of a $175 CPU - and memory still running at CAS 2.5 1:1 at 266MHz!

    P4 2.8c D1 stepping with 30 caps?

I have been running my M0 at 260 for awhile and played around with 266 last night - not stable at stock voltage so I am going to try with a bump of a half volt or so - but it was a little warmer in my room last night than normal. Would love to see if I can get 3.725GHz out of this chip. 3.64 is...

    2.4c v 2.8c oc

I think you missed my point - you save a few dollars on a 2.4 but have to spend more on a motherboard that will go 275+ FSB (Your IC7 is a case in point) and more on the memory if you are going to run at a 5:4 divider. Unless you go up to 300+ MHz FSB and run 3:2 with PC3200 memory, you are...

    2.4c v 2.8c oc

A lot of the 2.8C's - especially the M0 stepping chips will hit 3.5GHz with a 250MHz FSB. Running 5:4 mem ration with PC3200 memroy at tight timings is a very good deal and most of the 865 motherboards will run that high on the FSB. The 2.4C is a bit cheaper but only very highend motherboards...

    Memory Suggestions - P4 3.0c, P4C800-E, ZALMAN CNPS7000A-Cu

I have the Corsair PC4000 mem. I would recommend for the quality and tech support. Also for the imings - I run at 262MHz FSB 1:1 with 2.5-4-4-7 timings. I haven't heard of anyone able to get the OCZ to run that fast at CAS 2.5.

    3.4C@3.8 on air or P4 3.2EE??

I base that one my own experience and looking at the number of systems going out that have 3.2 and 3.4 vs 3.2 EE and 3.4 EE chips using water and vapor cooling and what speeds they are hitting. Late yields of 'normal' 3.2 and 3.4 northwoods are going higher than the EE chips. Apples to Apples...

LanParty875P vs Abit IC7 Max 3....which will it be?

    2.8c@3.2 229FSB have I forgot anyting?

Unfortunately in actual usage benchmarks 5:2 at tight timings with GAT enabled is faster than PC4000 1:1 with 3:4:4:8 timings - I ran the tests - unless you can run 1:1 with CAS 2.5, don't waste your money - See posts from thugs for more data. Synthetic benchmarks do not take into account...

    3.4C@3.8 on air or P4 3.2EE??

Actually the 3.2 and 3.4 EE's that don't pass muster are not always lablled as 2.4's or 2.8's. If they pass cache testing the end up as Xeons - other wise some go out as 2.4's or 2.8's. Speed Binning is overused - most 2.4 and 2.8 M0 were never tested that high - there is a much larger...

    2.8c@3.2 229FSB have I forgot anyting?

hmm. Definitely sounds like a prescott that needs better cooling. Don't listen to the idiot who suggested selling the memory for PC4000. Try using only two sticks at 2.8V and run the 2-3-2-5-T1 settings and set for speedracer for GAT. Run at 5:4 mem divider. Get a better heatsink and go for the...

    P4 2.80E Prescott or northwood 2.80C

Most of the complaints about the Prescott is the small percentage loss in many of tadays benchmarks and the high temps. max vcore for p4 2.8c

Sounds a bit high the that overclock - Your memory timings also seem off for 5:4 LL memory - Why not CAS 2? 2.8C M0 at 260MHz with 1.575V with Corsair Hydrocool 200 E - was 250MHz at 1.55V with Alpah PAL.

    New P4 System

Definitely go with the Northwoods right now - Better overclocker, much cooler, won't fry your motherboard if you do OC, Faster in most benchmarks clock for clock. Moderate voltage increase and a good HSF should get you a great OC.

Do I just have a crappy chip?

I have also found that the 'c' series are much better overclockers than the 'b' series. My old 2.66B topped out at 3.2 on an Abit BH7 while my new 2.8C wnet to 3.5 on air and is now at 3.64 on water.
  36. S

So... To Heck with it/ Ordered a Prescott anyhow**** Its Too Dang Hot***

    I'll argue that a 2.8C or 3.0C is a better value then a 2.8E or 3.0E right now.

    P4 2.8C vrs. P42.8E

I run a 2.8C at 260MHz FSB - Decent water cooling and temps in the 39-42 range under load. 3.64GHz without frying the motherboard or turning my computer room into an oven - couldn't do that with a Prescott.

I think ATI will win this match

Both the NVidia and ATI cards are going to be CPU and bandwidth limited - then again, how many people here are going to buy a $500 video card if they are not already running OC processors that are faster than a stock P4 EE or Athlon FX chip? Fact is that if there is a game that runs slow on my...
