    Waterclock? (Hole in a bucket which has appropriate graduations.) A swinging pendulum would also work, and is very simple to analyze with basic high school physics. Or if you need more precision, you could try measuring the decay of cesium... ;)

    The only way you can do it is if you have an external keyboard or mouse... read this. I would just leave it open, if I were you. As some people have pointed out, Powerbooks (most laptops, in fact) vent through the keyboard.

    The LaCie Electron 22", while expensive, is an amazing display -- especially if you need colour accuracy. Better than any of the Sonys I've ever used, IMO.
