depending on what you see your needs being down the road, i would probably bypass skt 754 and go w/ a 939 set up....skt 754 is already being shown the door by amd. i was gonna go 754, too but have finally been persuaded to save a litt e longer and go 939 instead...
anyone else using this mobo...it's been really good....oc's better than i thought it would. waiting to see if gigabyte will put out another bios to say dual channel's enabled in the post, tho....
depending on which stepping you get, you would be able to hit 2400MHz on air...the AQXEA 0324's and 7's, i believe, are able to hit 2400MHz, 2300MHz minimum...what stepping is your 1700+? if it's a DLT3C JIUHB, you should be able to hit 2300MHz minimum...here's are a couple of oc guides...
yes, 2GHz is 2GHz...but your FSB is what makes the difference. that's how fast your CPU communicates with the rest of your system or something to that effect...better to have high FSB and lower multi...r u running your memory in sync with FSB? that's ideal...running FSB and memory out of sink...
just got my JIUHB 0310SPMW 1700+ for $62 even...I know 1700's are dying off but I couldn't pass it up....no Mobo for it yet but looking forward to setting it up when I get back from Thailand...
i would stay under 144 until you experiment with your settings/voltages a little more. try upping your voltages but be careful..there's this thing called Sudden Northwood Death Sysndrome (SNDS) that results from careless OC'ing...Check www.overclockers.com and look at their database they have...
while i'm not familiar with your set-up...go into your BIOS and up your FSB as that's the only way you can OC a P4 unless you were blessed and got an enigneering chip (they're unlocked)...do it in small increments (not more than 5Mhz at a time) you may need to up your voltage but be careful with...
uncheck terminate on overheat/failure box on the burn in wizard...that'll keep it from stopping. intel processors have built in throttling to keep them from getting burned out due to overheating. throttling dials the cpu back to lower the cpu temp...and the system slows down but doesn't burn...
