3.0 GHz P4 Laptop! $1299!

I grant that it's on the light side for a battery, but most full P4's only give about 2 hours anyway. The Pentium-M's will give you 4 or 5 hours, but at a huge performance cost. This is more of a gaming laptop.

Hey, this topic sort of fell off the map. I use jumpers for two reasons.... Not all mobos support CS. Since I usually dump Linux on old machines, I find it useful simply to indicate which should be master and which should slave (unless you're that idiot from California who thinks those terms...

Backup Help Needed, (May be simple)

Except that when you bork up a drive by removing Administrator and System from permissions, the Admin cannot even see it. At all. So the Backup utility in fact has some sort of 'super-admin' privilege. Not sure how well that is documented, but it's definitely worth noting.

Dunno if that works. I know it Definitely DOESN'T work if Administrator and/or System have been removed from the permissions. The method I use works with almost ANY security problem.

It isn't simple, It's a pain in the @$$. I found a way around it though. It started with a separate security problem I had, one where I was trying to recover files on a partition after a reinstall of windows. Not to bore you, here is the specifics. Mount the old drive as a slave on your IDE...

Heh, this is a workaround, although it's one MS won't want you to know. If you have an XP machine, and you've lost a password, boot with a 2K cd. HUGE security hole. You can access all accounts, including Administrator.

Err, I certainly don't want to make anyone feel foolish, but if you are having low-volume problems with this unit, or the 'volume doesn't change' issue.... look at the jack your headphones are plugged into.... There is a black 'Line Out', and a green 'Headphones'... I made the same mistake.
