Team Anandtech vs Tom’s Hardware FAH Race - Round 2

Saw a note about the Folding Race and jumped back in. Last distributed project for me was DPAD. Since Stephen Brooks isn't using that data any more, I stopped. :( [TA]JonB I'll toss my fairly new Ryzen 7 1700 into the race.

I don't stream from my WHS except to my other home computers, but is the first time I can honestly claim that my computers are backed up. That's my favorite feature. I've used that Backup feature to easily rebuild my systems. Once to replace a dead C: drive and twice to upgrade from a 250GB...

I found a remote PC that hadn't dumped in almost 30 days. It had lost it's wireless connection. While that PC isn't a hot performer, a 30 day dump is still impressive.

perhaps you could UNDERclock the CPU and memory. It may keep the temps down and would be more thermally stable. (just remember to change it back in the Fall!)

The Aspire One also uses the Intel Atom and it is more than adequate to the task. My Linux model (Linpus, actually) doesn't have a mechanical harddrive, just RAM. It allocates 512MB for the OS and then I added a 16GB SD Card to bring the total onboard memory to 24GB. The 3 USB ports work great...

They shouldn't be allowed to call that a laptop. Portable workstation, perhaps. I love my little AspireOne netbook (Linux) though. My new battery easily gives me 9 hours of run time. It doesn't get hot.

Help with DPAD running on Xeon server

If your results.dat file is small, then you will run a LOT of 5x verification runs. Keep in mind that the number of results turned in is NOT the same as the amount of Mpts you get credit for. Two things I'd try: 1. You can let it build up its own results.dat file and it will quickly...

Cell processor

I noticed in my college alumni letter from Louisiana Tech that they have specifically set up a Playstation 3 lab just to use the Cell Processors. Probably common on a lot of engineering school campuses. I think we'll see good things in the future for add-in boards like this.

Asus mobo feature - boot into Linux

Quite a few new ASUS motherboards have the "instant boot" feature that opens Linux and several basic applications. Has anyone tried running a Linux based DC client on one? Perhaps with no real overhead, it might crunch faster. Just curious.
