Shuttle computer freezing at random times -- any ideas?

I just recently built a new computer using a Shuttle SN27P2 mini-PC kit. Most of the time, it works well, but at least once every few days, my computer just freezes up (no blue screen) and has to be powered off. At first I thought it was my TV tuner card because the first two freezes occurred...

ATI Drivers

For what it's worth, I'm running Catalyst 3.2 on my Radeon 8500 card and Unreal, Generals, and Counter-Strike all run fine. I haven't tried the other games on your list, though.

which ATI onboard video is better?

As an addendum to my post above: If you're just trying to play something like The Sims, pretty much any integrated video (even the ATI stuff) will do fine. The Sims is not a very demanding game. But if you plan to play more graphics-intensive games as well, get a more powerful video solution.

Currently, ATI's core logic chipsets are very outdated in almost every respect. As far as I know, the very best Radeon IGP chip has Radeon 7500-level graphics. If you're looking to get a motherboard with on-board graphics, go for an nForce2-based board. However, I'd personally recommend getting...

Conversion of a Radeon 8500 to a Radeon 9100

I've heard that it's possible to convert a Radeon 8500 board to a Radeon 9100 board using a BIOS flash, since the 9100 is just a rebadged 8500. I have two questions. 1) Does this only work with third-party 8500-series boards, or does it work with ATI-branded boards as well? I ask because ATI...

PCI video cards which is the best

Don't expect much. Generals is an extremely system-intensive game. With just an 800MHz CPU and a PCI video card, you'll have to turn down all the detail settings and the resolution, and even then it might not run very well. To give you some perspective, I have a laptop with 512MB RAM, a 1.8GHz...

Poll: Do you currently suffer from Scrolling, Flickering Horizontal lines (especially with Radeon 9xxx)
